American Holiday

If you didn't already believe the place was overpriced and overrated

American holiday is advertised as a fun, eclectic shop centered around beachy, carefree American living. What I found was an overpriced, poor-quality shop that found itself simultaneously pretentious and underwhelming. American Holiday curates cheap products that are overpriced. There are much better shopping options literally everywhere else on M St and Wisconsin. Furthermore I found the male clerk to be incredibly rude and unhelpful. I normally don’t take the time to write Dirty Scam reviews, but in this case I thought I would make an exception.

Most egregiously I heard the same clerk discussing how much he enjoys ripping off unassuming customers with a coworker. If you didn’t already believe the place was overpriced and overrated, maybe you should listen to the staff.

I do not recommend and hope you will patronize elsewhere– perhaps somewhere where the clerks aren’t metaphorical pick-pockets.

  1. My boyfriend and I had a great experience here.

My boyfriend and I had a great experience here. They had a lot of Christmas-themed stuff (handmade gnomes, soaps, etc.) and a flock of wooden ducks with big red boots — cute stuff. There was also a giant Burger King sign, nice scarves, pillows, socks, and a very nicely curated selection of furniture among other things.

In other words it had a quirky set of merchandise some of which you wouldn’t find in other places. Pricing was competitive for a store in Georgetown. But, the best part was really the quirky and very customer-centered help we received from a staff member named Marty. He was friendly, thoughtful, and really helpful in talking us through some of the furniture options. It was a great experience for us.
