I was referred to Eduardo by Cabinets to Go in Frederick, MD for our cabinet assembly and install. He was the second of two quotes and although more expensive than the first quote, we chose him because he was amenable to our tight deadline. He was friendly and easy to talk to, however when it came down to his workmanship it all went down hill.
I provided a detailed drawing depicting where the cabinets went and numbered each cabinet box respectively. I had three different sizes of hardware so I numbered each to match the respective cabinet. I received a call asking where one of the cabinet went, I didn’t have the drawing in hand and was about 30 mins away so I blindly told him where I thought it went, well he installed the wrong cabinet in the wrong place – mind you he had a drawing and boxes numbered that clearly depicted where each cabinet went; furthermore, the cabinet widths were the same on the wall and base.
By the time I arrive, he has already installed the cabinet incorrectly and a few others, so he insisted that he could no longer move/fix the layout because there were holes in the floor and because it would require moving some of the other cabinets. So being as easy-going as I am, I said no worries, we’ll make it work (even though everything was now off by 3 inches). I regret doing this because it seems this gave him the license to be lazy and careless.
He had originally told me this would take him a day and a half, so I made plans to attend a Christmas party that night. When I told him I had to go and he told me he would be finishing that evening. Although a little hesitant to not be there when he was finished to review the work, I decided to trust him because up to this point, aside that one honest mistake, the work itself seemed good.
I stop by the next day to find issue, after issue, after issue. He installed the cabinet hardware where he felt he wanted it to go; bottom cabinet doors now have two different sized handles, some of the handles that are side by side appear lower/raised and/or not straight. He ripped the dishwasher side panel as sloppy as it can get, didn’t even leave a cut out piece of trim to cover up his sloppy cut.
He moved the cabinet over the fridge 3 inches to the left of where the fridge goes, so now the fridge looks ridiculous under that cabinet. He left half the cabinets floating about an inch on the front end — no attempt to shim — so I guess the two screws he put on the back are to hold up a ton of granite? Never even bothered to call me to tell me about any of these issues, or to ask If we were happy with the work. I would NEVER hire him again.
