I am a professional photographer. I was looking to buy a cannon camera and checked on the internet for the different prices. B&H Photo was selling it at the cheapest cost, but it was out of stock at their store. So, I decided to go with the second lowest cost. It was from 42nd Street Photo. They were charging a little more than the offer from B&H.
After reaching to the store, I asked them for a 6D body. The replied yes saying that I was the third person came that morning to buy that product. It was suspicious as it had been less than an hour the store opened that morning and there was not much rush as well. I believe I was the first person to enter their store.
However, without giving it a thought, I further enquired. A guy went back and brought the camera. While he was away, an old man was making the bills. He did not use bill book or any computer software to generate the bill. He simply made a handwritten bill.
The person got the camera and it felt like worn out. There were damages on the packet and it looked like a used one. The box was old and looked dirty. The guy convinced me that it happens when other boxes got on top of the bottom ones. He asked me to check the camera and then make the purchase.
So, I looked at it and it seemed fine. While I was checking the camera, that guy tried to convince me for buying extra battery pack as well as faster memory card. I purchased the extra battery pack. I went back to the hotel and found that the ultra battery pack was not working. It was broken, and I had to went back to the store the next morning to get it replaced. They thankfully, replaced the battery.
That same day, I tried to connect mounting bracket at the back of the camera. This time, I again was shocked to see that there was already marks of mounting brackets that would have been connected before. To make it clear, I used the GPhoto2 to check the number of clicks of the camera and found that the camera was already used for 38900 clicks. Canon only provide a guarantee till 100,000 clicks and it was already over it.
I mailed them and they sent me a mail saying that they did not know about it. However, finding broken and old products cannot be a coincidence. I understood that they would be again be sending me an old camera. So, there was no use of asking them only for a replacement. So, I asked them for a concession instead of getting me a different one.
They are still thinking over the issue and meanwhile I have stopped the amount after talking to the credit card company as they advised me for doing so.
I am never going to deal with 42nd Street Photo ever again.
