CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I’ve been a member of Westerra Credit Union for about 30 years and have seen this credit union get progressively worse each year. Now, it’s finally time to close my accounts for good.

I recently had to shut down all my accounts due to a stolen checkbook (got it all shut down before any fraud took place) and in the process, westerra gave me a printed copy of my new account.

After setting up several auto payments (including my mortgage) I learned several days later that the account # on the paper they gave me was off by one digit.

As a result, I had multiple missed payments because creditors had the wrong account number – what a mess (human error though) upon calling westerra,

I was transferred to a manger that was impatient, unapologetic and basically content with telling me this was my problem to deal with once she gave me the correct acct#.

Suffice to say this negatively impacted credit and caused hours of damage control on my end.

This is just one of many reasons that I’m divorcing this institution (very long list).

The bottom line – westerra makes it very hard to do business with and lacks overwhelmingly in their customer service.

Let’s face it, for most of us we need a good relationship with our bank in order to navigate life – westerra simply no longer fosters this type of mentality with its members.

A trip to westerra is sometimes similar to a trip to the DMV. I don’t recommend them and will no longer use them on any level.

Westerra – go back to who you used to be when you were DPS. You have changed enormously and not for the better.

  1. Finally used another bank.

    Trying to do an international wire transfer. Called the branch manager for several days. Ended up taking the day off work, went to the bank to resolve the issue. Branch manager at the Westminster Westerra Kevin of course was not in. The person that did my transfer was not in either.

    So I spoke with a lady that looked up the wire, called the wire department and could only say yes, the wire did not go thru and the person that did the wire for me was emailed the next day. But she could not help me as only the original person doing the wire could or the branch manager. So called Kevin again 303-991-1811.. no answer ever.. finally he decided to call me.

    Said the wire needed the US bank routing number. (this is a common number.. more of the banks address. Easy to find, easy for the my bank to look up and update the wire) Almost 2 weeks to figure out my wire for something that is important. Not one person did anything other than Kevin finally calling and saying sorry. Finally used another bank.

    I wouldn’t use these guys. Horrible service and unprofessional. Took forever to take out a HELOC even with high income, minimal debt, and excellent credit. They send a monthly statement (they even forget to mail out the monthly statement) combined with checking and savings and your suppose to figure out how much to pay each month.

    They wont send you a loan/billing statement like other companies. They are nice on the phone, but that doesn’t make up for all the hassles you go through getting and maintaining a loan. There are way better companies out there.

    negative stars as this bank are complete thieves!!!! name should be thieves as they can not be trusted with your money. persuade clients with lies and false information as well as promises. customer service reps on the phone are never able to help with anything and urgent to pass you off to another person that does the exact same.

    never enroll in auto pay as they will take funds when they choose and refuse to credit the full amount that was debited. literally stealing money from the consumer for their benefit. over a year of service and they do what they wish with my money moving it to accounts they failed to inform me exist and holding on to the funds rather than refunding them to the consumer.

    and when the consumer request the account to be closed and funds to be returned they withhold a portion for themselves which is not right.

    Westerra accepts my check every month to pay on the loan listed under ‘Reynaldo Lopez Garcia. Rey’s truck got hit in a parking lot (the other driver didn’t stay around). I filed a claim with our insurance company (the policy is under Rey and me ,Theresa Cook). Because I filed the claim,

    The insurance company made the check out to ‘Theresa Cook and Westerra Credit Union. Well, because my name was on the check (and not Rey’s) they went through everything they could (from my vantage point) to find a way to tell me that they couldn’t take the check. Well, now the insurance company has to put a stop payment on the check, wait a few days, and then re-issue the check.

    I’m with Mari H. Do I smell Wall Street here? I’ve had nothing but terrible service since the good for the members merger. You were urged to vote so the fat cats could get bigger, fatter paychecks and leave people without jobs.

    That to me, is not what credit unions are about. They are supposed to be about friendly customer service, good rates, and caring about the members.

    What… free reward points on my debit card transactions!!! That’s just an awesome benefit of being part of Westerra Credit Union. How do they do it? Well, they are not-for-profit. So there are no stockholders looking to make money on my day-to-day transactions.

    As the credit union makes money, they return their profits to enhance the services we use. Tell your friends, co-workers, kids and family members to check them out. We also got our choice of a free state or national parks pass or fitbit when we added a new service. I love that Westerra is locally owned in Colorado.

  8. I will never bank at Westerra again.

    I will never bank at Westerra again. Horrible service, not willing to work with their clients. Mar car loan became the biggest hassle ever when all I wanted to do was have it paid through my savings account.

    For some reason it took them 4 months to get that process going. They would call me to tell me the payment was due, and then notice that the transfer from my savings account did not work.

  9. Judging by the amount of low stars I'd say they need to improve a lot before you join them.Bad

    My account has been frozen twice now to “protect”me from fraud. Both times they allowed the transaction and then shut off the card. Both times they were legit but some algorithm thought otherwise. Judging by the amount of low stars I’d say they need to improve a lot before you join them.Bad,bad,bad….

    This is a scam company trying to dress themselves up as a legitimate bank. When my debit card was stolen, they allowed over $350 of fraudulent charges to post against my overdraft line of credit AFTER being notified of the theft. So far I’ve had to involve the BBB, the FTC, the CFBC and the NACU and they still wont return my money.

  11. Frankly, I'd rather pay more for better service.

    I have accounts and loans through this institution and the experience has been very negative. I’ve often been hit with late fees for automatic transfers and payments that are set up within their autopay system but their system fails to make.

    Their online banking site is horrible, elementary and antiquated. Their security measures are cumbersome and over the top. The ONLY reason I continue to keep these accounts open is I’m paying 1.9% on a car loan and 0% on a credit card. Frankly, I’d rather pay more for better service.

    Terrible terrible business. I’m already regretting doing business with them. Also terrible customer service.
