Sovereign Associates

Unethical Brokerage

Unethical brokerage. I rented my apartment with a broker from Sovereign Associates and we ended up losing our money and home.

I paid our security deposit of over $30,000 and he ended up renting us our apartment with bats in it.

I ended up getting shots for rabies and lost a lot of money in the process.

Please beware and do not rent from this brokerage.

Our family are still feeling the lost till today.

  1. Highly recommended!

We used Annie Hawkins and couldn’t have been more pleased. She went to bat for us when the rental company tried to say there wasn’t room for a dishwasher and other kitchen upgrades. Also, she is very friendly and accommodating and always available to answer questions promptly. Highly recommended!

  2. Michael was super helpful and always kept me in the loop.

Michael was super helpful and always kept me in the loop. I am more than happy with my apartment! Things were taken care of as fast as possible and I felt like priority even at my lower price point.

They knew exactly what to do to get me what I need. Michael even followed up to make sure everything that had been promised was completed. I felt they earned every dollar of the fee and I highly recommend Sovereign Associates.

  3. I had to make a last-minute move from Chicago to New York

I had to make a last-minute move from Chicago to New York, and apartment hunting wasn’t easy. But when I did find an apartment I was extremely happy with, and Michael was beyond helpful.

There were strange twists and turns in terms of getting the lease signed, all of which were a function of my job switch and location switch — and Michael helped me out through the whole process and made it as quick and easy as possible. Now I’m living in an awesome apartment and an awesome location. From one Chicagoan to another: thank you!

  4. My experience working with Craig from Sovereign has been very positive.

My experience working with Craig from Sovereign has been very positive. I was able to find an apartment that I liked quickly, and all of the paperwork was taken care of without delay.

As he also lives there, Craig is very knowledgeable about the Washington Heights area and which are the best parts to live in with a family. He also was able to provide suggestions for where to buy furniture, and other questions (as I had not lived in New York for many years, such advice was most helpful).

If looking to rent in the Washington Heights area, I would definitely recommend Sovereign Associates, and they should be the first broker you speak to, as they have both a good selection and an in-depth familiarity with the area as well.

  5. Emmanuel was an excellent

Emmanuel was an excellent, responsive broker who found us a perfect apartment in a wonderful neighborhood, all while keeping us calm (the move was last-minute). We had had no luck at all until he stepped into the scene and we couldn’t be more grateful or happy with our new place.

  6. Couldn't have asked for better service.

Michael C. was a dream and a tremendous help during the whole process. We first found Michael in June when we thought we were going to get out of a horrible living situation.

Michael found us there perfect place, but we found out that we weren’t going to be able to move as early as we hoped. Michael vowed to find us a place that we loved when we were ready again, and he did! Couldn’t have asked for better service.

  7. It has been a pleasure working with him

I worked with Michael Carr from Sovereign Associates . Michael has been very patient and accommodating threw out this process. He always made it a point to answer the questions my husband and I have and made us feel confident about the care of our apartment. It has been a pleasure working with him

  8. Waste of time. Poor communication, high pressure, rude and very unprofessional.

First contact via email was okay – we got a response and it was very matter of fact relating to an apartment he listed. When we first met up, he was late and did not provide any communication at all. He also did not communicate to us that the apartment that we scheduled to meet at already had someone waiting outside to put down a deposit.

After waiting for him to complete the transaction with the 1st prospect, he later showed us an apartment around the corner but gave us 10 minutes to view the 2nd apartment before telling us that he had to leave and complete the previous prospect’s paperwork.

The high sales pressure came within 24 hours of viewing stating he needed an answer giving all kinds of excuses but the fact was the apt was just gutted with garbage everything and absolutely not ready to be on the market for at least another month. We asked for a day or 2 to think about it then he accused us of ‘not being serious’.

There were many concerns with him, the apartment so we told him that we decided to pass on the apt. This was our first and last viewing – we are the best candidates for any market therefore we are not desperate. The response from him is extremely rude and unprofessional. (See attached screen shot) Don’t trust him and take your time and money elsewhere. There are many other brokers that are at least ‘decent’.

  9. He should be revoked from a licensed real estate agent.

By all means don’t do business with Jordan Romer. He’s a scam artist, heartless and untrustworthy. He showed me an apartment that was already rented (by him) and then pretended that the apartment was available in the market. Then, he scheduled me an appointment to see him at his office the next business day to submit my application, payment and documents for the apartment.

Afterwards, he said I will go to the landlord office today to drop off your application, payment and documents. Then hours later (during after hours), I called him up to check if he dropped of my application, payment and documents and he said not yet. Then days later, he sent me a text saying that the landlord took another application (bs).

Like I wasn’t convinced with his story, I personally went to the landlord office to find out whether or not if he dropped off my application, payment and documents to the landlord. After speaking to the landlord assist at the office, I found out that Jordan didn’t do such thing but luckily I had an appointment scheduled to see him the next day.

So the next day, we met at a local restaurant (not to far from his job) and then he came up with a sorry excuse story about the landlord taking another application and telling how awful the landlord is. Like I didn’t believe his sorry excuse, I asked him politely to please return my documents along with my application and payment.

So eventually he returned everything back to me (after waiting 30 to 45 mins) and then I left the table (without shaking his hand) with my head lifted high. I hope my story helped you and helps others not to trust this man. This man shouldn’t be licensed real estate agent. He should be revoked from a licensed real estate agent.

  10. Avoid these scammers.

Avoid these scammers. Contacted them via an apartments.com listing and was connected to a broker named Annie Hawkins. When she contacted me, she informed me that, in stark contrast to the other reviews, Sovereign would charge a broker fee of more than $900 (!) to get into one of the units they’re representing.

There was nothing disclosing this massive fee in the listing. When confronted with this, rather than cop to the problem, Ms. Hawkins’ response was rude, aggressive, and unprofessional.

Don’t use this company. They’re extraordinarily dishonest – if you’re an out of towner or a student, they’ll do their absolute best to take advantage of you.

  11. I am moving to NY soon. Dodged a bullet on this one.

Wow, Greg “H”, the owner, sounds like a complete narcissist!! His responses to the reviewers are nothing short of an explosive attack. Clearly this person has no sense of true self worth, or maturity!, and feels the need to completely attack any criticism (with belittlement and condescending remarks) to try and save his “wonderful image”( which is undoubtedly false), instead of rectifying the issue at hand. What a shyster!! I have seen enough of him on here, I will move on now and do business with another company. I am moving to NY soon. Dodged a bullet on this one.
