2020 Certificate of Good Standing Request Form

I received this in the mail after starting my own LLC. I had been warned by NJSBDC that I would receive scam mail like these. When a new LLC starts, it goes into the public records, so scammers like these take advantage of new New Jersey business owners who are trying to follow all the rules, as they can access the name of the business, the business type, and the date of registration (all of these were listed). I checked with NJSBDC and they confirmed that this is not from any government body and is a scam. The document looked very official and legitimate, so it would easy to be fooled. They said to send $114.50 to get a certificate of good standing. Beware!

After starting my LLC, I received a Certificate of Good Standing request form from NJ Certificate Service. The cost is $114.50. I read the form closely. There was one sentence in the middle of the page: “New Jersey Certificate Service is not affiliated with any government of state agency and this notice is a solicitation for your business.” So the form is honest but NJ Certificate Service counts on you not reading it carefully and sending in your money. They rely on our good intentions to comply with state regulations. However, the Certificate is not always required. If your business does require such a certificate, you can get one from the state for a lot less!

    Scam

This is a scam company that just sends a letter for a “business entity standing certificate” for $115, that’s not actually required.

  3. Ethan

Bad scam, require the exact same amount of money

This letter is received as long as any new LLC has been registered in NJ. It is not a government service and their website doesn’t even exist. Totally scam.
