MB Financial Bank

Customer Service

This used to be 1st Security Federal Savings Bank and is now an MB Financial Bank branch.

I am not a customer of this bank but I had the opportunity to sit and wait for someone who had to meet with a personal banker.

I was Margaret Mead, just sitting there and observing.

Unfortunately I was not impressed with my observations in the thirty minutes I sat there.

Observation #1: A woman came in and needed to get change ($100 in quarters and $100 in singles) for her business.

They could not accomodate her request for the quarters.

She explained to the cashier that “we deposit a lot of money into this bank and we come here seven days a week to get $100 in quarters and $100 in singles.”

The woman was very frustrated but remained polite when dealing with the teller.

Grant it, this was a Sunday, but I don’t consider $100 in change to be an unreasonable request of a BANK.

Observation #2: Unlike most other businesses where people wait in line, they do not have a single line.

You go up to an individual teller. The bank was relatively crowded (for a bank in this age of ATMs).

There were multiple people waiting in lines and it seemed like it was a day where every transaction was taking 10 minutes.

I noticed one teller took care of a customer and then put up her CLOSED sign and walked away, without saying anything or even acknowledging the gentleman waiting behind the woman.

The man had to go to another line and started his wait from scratch. I’d be miffed.

Observation #3: I guess the teller that closed was supposed to do something for the woman that was her last customer.

This older well-dressed woman then sat down in the waiting area.

The security guard asked her if she wanted to see a personal banker.

The woman explained that she was waiting for the teller.

Well anyway, about 15 minutes passed and again and the security guard asked if there’s anything a banker could help her with (there was a wait for the personal banker too).

Again, no. Well the woman waited another 10 minutes and went up to another employee CRYING and talking in Ukrainian and then just left the bank.

The teller eventually showed up and the other employees explained to her that her customer was long gone.

I don’t know if my 30 minute wait was an aberration or if this business as usual at this branch.

  2. I would recommend her to family and friends.

I had great experience with mortgage loan officer Amelia Santos at MB Financial Bank. She is excellent professional and a wonderful person to work with. she guided through the loan process. She assisted and resolved all issues to final approval. I would recommend her to family and friends.

  3. Inconsistent service.

I’ve experienced bad service at the branch on Golf Road. There were times when I had to wait 35 minutes on a Weekday afternoon for a bank representative to help me open a CD. There were only 2 bankers available and busy with customers. Y

ou would think that they would try to get a teller to help or something in that situation…. but no. They just let me wait and wait. I’m not too surprised they went out of business. It will be interesting to see if they keep the same staff. One banker was very helpful. Another one was lazy and made lots of mistakes. Inconsistent service.
