Ideal Homes

Horrible Experience

I’ve been in my home for 10 years. The buying experience was horrible and I felt several of Ideal Home’s representatives were unethical and dishonest.

My dissatisfaction was never successfully addressed, so I would stay away from them and their associated builder, Landmark.

As for their homes, expect low utility bills – they do that well, but expect electrical and plumbing problems that their contractor won’t successfully fix under warranty.

I’d give the house itself three stars.

  1. Money grab

I’ve been waiting for nine months property hasn’t even been surveyed yet .I received a call saying that it’s all go . I was soon after called into the office and told that I need to come up with $31.000 to continue due to cost of materials rise . I’ve been in construction for thirty years and have had a bad feeling about the build from the start .Very poor communication. I’m seeing a building complaints lawyer and have approached the bank to try to salvage the existing loan .I have approached four different builders and told to stay away from ideal .I have been told that if I pull out of the build I will owe ideal $28.000. I truly recommend using another builder.

  2. HOA lie

As far as the house itself goes, I am overall very happy. There are some areas where you can see shortcuts were made and the grout job could have been much better, but overall I still love the house.

The sod on the other hand should not be advertised as a bonus. There is clearly no quality control done to make sure it is to standard. There are more weeds than actual grass. Getting the lawn going has been a challenge. Drive around the neighborhood and see for yourself.

Where Ideal homes lost me was the HOA. They sell it to you as a fully functional HOA. It is nothing close. Once again, drive around the neighborhood and see if standards are being kept? The company replies on a net work of narcs in the community to report issues. If your neighbors are to good nature to report the issues or don’t like being narcs than the issues are not handled at all. Parking is a nightmare at some areas of the neighborhood. Trash, trailers, barrels, etc are stored wherever including the front yard. You pay your HOA fee and that buy you community lawn care, and they do not even do all the areas needed! There are no HOA meetings or votes. Crime is on the rise, we have tried several time to reach out to the HOA leaders, but they clearly don’t care and are avoiding us so they do not have to address these issues. They would probably be better off not calling it an HOA cause as it is, that is a lie!

Construction sites are a mess and reasonable for the majority of the trash in the neighborhood. Once again, they don’t clean it up. They wait till it blows in your yard so you will clean it up.

As for the sales team. This is were they put there attention. Almost everyone is polite and helpful up until you close. Then when I followed up with issues that had been brought up before closing, I was told. “My obligations to you ended at closing” but beside that one person the rest of the team is nice and easy to work with. It did take a few trips and weeks to get the mistakes corrected, but wasn’t a huge deal.

Overall I am glad I purchased my home, I just wish the company care about the people after the sale like they claim.

  3. Look forward to our next Ideal Home 5 to 8 years from now!

Great house designs. Ability to modify plans to fit our likes and needs was a definite plus—affordable homes with great neighborhoods. Our builder, Brian, was top-notch and made the construction process relaxing. I look forward to our next Ideal Home 5 to 8 years from now!

  4. Scammer

This was covered under warranty and everything was fine aside from some minor problems (such as cracked counter tops and cabinet doors that wouldn’t close) until the garage filled up with water in Dec of.

Not knowing what was wrong I called Ideal Homes customer care and asked for the number of their recommended plumber. I was told that their plumbing company only does new construction and that I should call another plumbing company.

I did and after cutting through the wall it turns out that when they put the siding on the front entry way a nail went through the water pipe connected to the washer. Apparently it had plugged it for over a year until it started to leak.

  5. We cant even sell our home due to the foundation problems until that are fixed.

I bought a custom-built home in 2000 from Ideal. It’s built next to a storm drain. They left such a slope on the west side that the stem wall starting leaning out and left a 2-inch gap between the baseboard and concrete slab. Ryan, the builder, came out and looked. They decided to have a Power lift put 7 piers under that side of the home.

We still have walls shifting, and the tape in the corners of all the rooms, including the kitchen, which is on the other side of the home from the storm ditch, is coming out of the corners. The vinyl flooring in the front bath is pulled away from the bath.

Their carpenter decided the easy fix was to add more wood to cover up the gaps. Their carpenter decided the easy fix was to add more wood to cover up the gaps. We are now looking at having to level the ground at the cost of 24,998 dollars before we can repair the sheetrock in the home. Their carpenter decided the easy fix was to add more wood to cover up the gaps. We can’t even sell our home due to the foundation problems until they are fixed.

  6. but I think it's important to call out unprofessionalism when I see it.

If you’re applying for a job with this company, be prepared to not get a call after your interview letting you know you weren’t selected or to offer any feedback (like a professional company would)! They just choose to ignore candidates that are not selected.

Also, be prepared to answer personal questions in your interview, like how much money you made when you owned your own business. This may sound like “sour grapes” to you, but I think it’s important to call out unprofessionalism when I see it.

  7. THEY DID NOT COME WITH THIS LESS THAN IDEAL HOME.

We purchased our brand new home merely two years ago, and we have experienced so many issues in this short amount of time. The stove released a dangerous amount of gas, so that was replaced within the first month. The air conditioner had gone out twice every season and was even recalled BEFORE it was installed.

In the cold, the heater also quits on us twice per winter, which is where I am now, in the cold. This is the 5th time our heat has gone out. As I sit in the cold, I think of that stove that stunk up the house with noxious odor, the garage door that also quit, the garbage disposal that is coincidentally garbage, & the AC.

I thought purchasing new would alleviate these issues, but I was wrong. If I could go back, I would not have purchased this home. The washer and dryer still work, though, and so does the fridge. DO YOU KNOW WHY? BECAUSE I BOUGHT THOSE MYSELF. THEY DID NOT COME WITH THIS LESS THAN IDEAL HOME.

  9. Ideal homes isn't a friendly let agency and I think they're racist.

I saw a home I liked and contacted them, not knowing that it had been already paid for by someone else, and concluded on to be given out, until the 17/04/19. I was treated like I didn’t matter.

I called severally without any response, and when I finally got one, they were rude and impatient to hear anything I had to say. I’ll find it hard having any dealings with them or recommending them for anything.
