Dr. Rakesh Dixit replaced the doctor I used to see at the San Francisco Multi Specialty Medical Group.
I have an injury that has plagued me for years and has had its ups and downs.
I saw him once last March and have since decided to pursue other medical professionals (who have been way more helpful.)
I received a bill today from them for a copay that shouldn’t exist, and it was the last straw, reminding me of how poorly I was treated.
At the time my arm was completely unusable.
I could barely get a word in. Every time I mentioned it he would interject and say I’m not injured so stop saying it, and that all I have to do is stop using it for a while.
I argued with him, telling him I’m a professional musician and non-use is not an option (nor is it recommended by nearly any other health professional, they all advise directed exercise and physical therapy.) It was impossible to get a few words in.
I wasn’t looking for pain medication or surgery or any of the easy ways out (I think he thought I was looking for pills or something), just more advice on exercise and ways to adjust how I go about my work.
Getting a bill today, five months later, may not be his fault, but it certainly gave me pause when I felt I should be done with this chapter in my life.
My injury is close to being healed and is no longer excruciating, thanks to physical therapists and doctors who have since helped me figure out an exercise routine that helps keep it in check.
