Dr. Koray Erdogan

Dr. Koray graft surgery is overstated

I would like to discuss the experience I had during my 3600 graft fue session with dr. Koray. Being from Australia, I had very few knowledges about dr Koray Erdogan results. All I knew was that the Dr Koray Erdogan cost for HT was a lot less from the UK and the USA. Hence, I started researching about the clinic and its reviews.

There are lots of Dr Koray Erdogan forums which are filled with great stories. I was nervous at the first go, but then I consulted the Sevinc who was my patient coordinator. He was great at communication and send me all the details over email. He got me my hotel bookings and the cab booking.

The Visa took a day or so. I was charged a total of 10,000 Euros for all the services included. I though it to be a great option. But, this is not what I got. Whatever I was promised was only on email. The actual service was very different.

After I reached Istanbul taking a long hour flight that ended at 5:30 PM in the evening while started at 2:30 AM from my place. I was told that the car would be waiting for me outside the airport. But, no one showed up. I tried to call Sevinc and the number was busy. So, I decided to take a cab to the hotel which was mentioned in the email.

It took me a lot of time to explain the driver about the hotel. He dropped me at the hotel and I was charged for the trip. This was an extra expense as my package included the cab charges. I tried to check in, but the receptionist said that I was not booked. I showed them the email and they consulted Sevinc. After waiting for two hours, I was given a room and they charged me for the dinner. This was again an extra expense as my package included breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The next day, I got hold of Sevinc and he sent the cab to my hotel. A relief after a bad day. I reached the clinic and met the doctor. After consulting the doctor, Sevinc took me to the room where my blood was tested, and ECG was done. So far, it was fine. Although, the place looked disorganized, I wanted my hair to look good and was not worried about how great the place looked.

I was taken to Dr. Koray Erdogan’s room and he marked the preliminary hairline. I wasn’t satisfied by that design and asked it that could change a little bit. He insisted on that design and I did what he suggested. After all, he was the expert in that field.

The next day, I was given a time to reach at the clinic. My cab was late as usual, and I had to hire one for myself. They had an area just outside the surgery room where the shoes were taken off. Dr. Koray was leading me and he did not bother to open his shoes, neither asked me to open mine. It was unhygienic.

First procedure was extraction from the donor area. It was hurtful, and they did not answer in the middle of the procedure. I had few questions, but I was asked to keep mum. It was lunch hour when they left and asked me to wait for the incision.

I was not given proper direction and if I could go out for lunch. I sat there starving and watching TV which was in Turkish. After lunch, the incision stared for the graft area. It took more hours as expected. It was painful too. The anaesthetics used did not help much. But, the procedure was done, and I was given some medication for pain after the surgery as well.

The next day, I was given shampoo bottle and conditioner. That’s it. I was given no directions. They did provide me some papers with instructions, but it was again not in English. It was not the way they should have treated me. I felt as if I was not given the proper attention. The results were also not great. The hairline that they did, was bad and did not suit my face. But, it is done.

  1. My surgery with dr. Koray in Asmed Clinic Istambul
Hello everyone, I’d like to tell you about my hair transplant with Dr. Koray. In my opinion there has been overharvesting , and consequently depleting of my donor area. I’ll start by putting photos to make you understand my situation and then I’ll explain in detail what happened and how the clinic plans and performs operations and some other details. I’ll do the description in English, Italian so that anyone can understand.
Briefly I describe you now my operation and then you can read the complete report below. I did two operations with Koray the first in 2013 of 4000 grafts and it went quite well. The second 2019 of other 4000 grafts.

    SURGERY -ENGLISH
    Hello everyone,
I would like to explain my transplant with the Asmed clinic and some details on the operation:

I got operated with Dr. Koray in 2013 and 4000 grafts were extracted. My operation was satisfactory then, apart from the design of the hairline not very natural to me, but otherwise there was a good regrowth.
In August 2019 I decided to go back to Koray for a little touch-up in the crown, which in my opinion was still empty. After sending some pictures to the clinic, we decided by email for 2000 max 2500 grafts.
When the doctor saw me in person he immediately decided that he wanted to put 4000 grafts and not 2000 as we had established. I honestly remained a little puzzled by this choice, it seemed to me too much for my donor. At last during the vist we found an agreement of 3000 grafts. Immediately after the visit was over with the Doctor, Alessio the italian consultant privately told me that Koray wanted to propose me an ulterior discount if i agreed to extract 4000 grafts(for the patients that repeat surgery with koray there is already a discount of 15% on the price for graft). But still i wasn’t sure about it because anyway i would had to pay more then what was established during the visit(1000 euro) and i repeat i was worried about a heavy post-surgery and for my donor. The doctor came to me after this new proposal and told me to not worry that it would have been perfect!

At last the discount offered to me and the insistent reassurances of the doctor that my donor could handle another 4000 grafts without any problem were very convincing, they also told me that in short time I would be all right. In my head there could be no margins of errors if the Doctor was so convinced to insist on this amount!
So I decided to trust the doctor and go for 4000 grafts.
Let’s move on to the payment of the operation, normally the payment for what the consultant told me is in cash with the possibility of paying a certain amount through bank transfer, but not the entire amount. In my case, however, as I had to pay more than what I expected and having previously informed them that I could not take cash with me (in 2013 I had to pay everything in cash) they allowed me to pay by bank transfer, Talking to some patients who were there they told me that they had to pay everything in cash and were not very happy about the fact that they had to bring a large amount of cash from their country. I have not been issued an invoice or receipt for the amount that i paid, and no copy of the contract that i have signed. Im still waiting for an invoice after 8 months that probably will never arrive because simply they don’t do invoices, that’s how it works!
We arrive at the day of the operation, which took place in two days, the first day I was taken 2000 grafts for the front and the second day another 2000 for the crown. Extractions and grafts were performed by two young assistants with the help of other auxiliaries. After the extractions I took a half hour break and then they took me to the surgery room to make the incisions and then the grafts. Once placed on the couch they gave me a dose of intravenous anesthesia and I do not remember if even with a syringe directly on the head. Then they put me some kind of blinkers on my forehead, I honestly don’t know what it was for, then, someone who, I suppose was the doctor, came in to make the incisions. I can’t tell precisely because he didn’t speak to me at all and I couldn’t see him because of the blinders, but since the incisions should be made exclusevely by the doctor, I guess it was him, but as he didn’t even talked to me, i really don’t know. The incisions lasted more or less 10-15 minutes if I remember correctly. I have to say that apart the incisions that i want to trust that he did it, i never saw Koray once during all the the two days surgery, neither to say, hello, only once the surgery was over and we were in the room where they cut and wash hair he came to compliment with me and with the two young assistant, stop.

Then we move on to the grafts, a curious thing here, an assistant asked me through the Italian consultant on which side I part my hair. The question surprised me a little because was done just a moment before doing the grafts and I thought that those kind of things were clarified in pre-surgery planning. I replied to the question but the consultant seeing me a little perplexed told me not to worry that it was a technical thing for them or something like that.
Towards the end of the grafts there was another curious thing, at a certain point an assistant called someone on the phone, who came down to the operating room, it was a female voice and started to shred me on the head, I suppose they were making incisions. Intrigued by this thing also because talking to another patient he told me that they did the same with him, I asked the consultant what had happened and he told me that they had re-opened the incisions because they had closed. But honestly I would have preferred that such a thing had been made by the doctor.

Already after two weeks from the surgery, when the hairs had grown back a little, I realized that something was not right, my donor was really empty behind, too much! I began to worry seriously, I sent photos to the clinic, which told me to not worry and that in 2/3 months everything would be back and would be homogenized.
But the more months went by and the more the worry increased due to the very evident gaps and in addition I noticed that in some areas more grafts had been extracted than others (you can see it in the pictures), so to my opinion they did not maintain a proper homogeneity in the extraction.
Arrived at 4 months i realized that my donor was doomed, in my opinion overharvesting was done in all the donor area. The clinic kept on repeating me to wait 6 months, when at the beginning of this story in 2 or 3 months everything had to return to normal. But now after 8 months i realized that what they were saying was not true.
I must also say that the doctor has never personally written me an email to explain or reassure me, he has always delegated his Italian consultant to answer me through whatsapp, who honestly could hardly give me explanations or sensible answers, he simply told me to wait a few months and everything would have been all right, after a lot of insistence and months, finally doctor wrote me to tell me that at 6 months my hair in the donor would have regrowth, of course this didn’t happen.

What i came to know after the surgery, that i didn’t know before, is that dr. Koray has invented a theory called coverage value, that he tries to spread in conference around the world. Apparently is a formula that prevent from overharvesting and also he is developing a robot called ke bot that actually was tested on me when i was there, i didn’t know it was the ke bot, they just used it on me without telling me exactly what it was for and without asking me an authorization to test it on me( unclear practice) and aparently it calculates also the coverage value and many other things. Of course his theory and futuristic machines didn’t make him understand that my donor didn’t have the capacity to have another 4000 grafts extracted, may be he should rely more on his eyes and what he remembers about basic rules of a hair transplant!

For me going with dr. koray had to be a guarantee, there are a lot of clinic in istambul even much cheaper, but didn’t want to risk, pay less and have a bad result in the regrowth was not my plan. But now the problem seems much bigger then a bad regrowth.
In my opinion the doctor did a terrible job. He completely misunderstood
the capacity of my donor and didn’t respect the basic rule of keeping a donor safe
from overharvesting. His famous theory of Coverage Value didn’t work on me. Plus assistant did a very bad job in extracting the grafts, they didn’t maintain homogeinity and extracted more grafts in some parts and less in others. Im vey disappointed also with the treatment i received after the surgery, they never admitted the mistake and keep on saying everything is ok. Shameful!

Why didn’t you sue him ?

Would you consider that spain laws are more stringent than Turkish laws ?

  2. Answer

The review on Asmed and Dr Koray is wholly inaccurate in many forms. I have met Sevinc and can assure all she is a very attractive young lady and not a ‘he’
I had my procedure in 2017 and have a magnificent result, I have since returned with a close relative in 2018 who has also had a procedure. The clinic and Dr Koray are ultra professional and produce wonderful results. Ignore the bogus review, it is obviously fake.

    1. Fake review

“Being from Australia, I had very few knowledges”…

I think this sentence says it all. Fake review. By no means do I wish to denigrate people who speak English as a second language, however, this “review” was clearly written by a non-native speaker, and therefore, most likely not by an Australian or someone who was educated in Australia… Just my two cents.

  3. fake review

I had my hair transplant from asmed clinic, based on my experience with dr koray erdogan and hes team thats false review nothing is true what is said there they are very well organised they picked me upt from airport toke me to hotel the next day the send taxi to hotel to pick me up went to clinic the clinic is so nice and clean and very well organised, and the instructions are given in english. so dr koray erdogan is the best choice

  4. Fake review

I have been operated by Asmed twice (2007 and 2016). I can clearly tell this is a fake review containing some more specific (fake) information related to the clinic to make it sound more realistic. By my side, i am very satisfied by my result and any aspect concerning the operation and the service as whole. 10/10

  6. False review

As a patient of ASMED the above sounds like a false review. Not only they give instructions in English, they add a video of post-op care on a USB flash drive. In addition, there are no cabs. They have their own transportation vehicles with their own drivers. Not only they were on time for my arrival, they were always waiting for me. Lastly, I had pain here and there during my operation, and my requests were always heard by giving me more injections or other medications through an IV. It also doesn’t make sense in terms of graft number since they don’t do more than 3000 grafts/day.

  8. Answer

This post is quite puzzling and highly inaccurate in many aspects. However, of primary importance is the fact that I have never operated on a patient with the profile of an Australian with 3600 grafts.

Secondly, the fee of 10,000 Euros for the procedure does correspond to the fee normally charged for 3600 grafts. Thirdly, there are additional inaccuracies in this post such as the reference to Sevinc, the patient coordinator, as “he” when in fact Sevinc is a woman, and also the fact that state controlled sanitary standards must be and are adhered to at all times and without exception in a medical facility such as ASMED. All surgical rooms are sterile and equipped with hepafilters per government requirements so there is no way anyone could pass into the surgical area with street shoes. Hairline designs are standardly established in one-to-one consultation with the patient according to the patient’s desires and within the scope of possibility for positive outcomes given the patient’s condition and donor capacity.

The ASMED Surgical Medical Center and our team of doctors and surgical assistants as well as patient coordinators fluent in multiple languages prides itself on accuracy, precision, artistry, patient care and patient support. No patient would ever be left stranded at the airport nor would they be left without confirmed accommodations in a bed and breakfast arrangement in or close to the medical center. A 24-hour phone service system provides patients with care and assistance any time of the day or night. The fleet of dedicated vehicles and drivers and special hotel arrangements guarantee this level of service to all patients and absolutely no patient leaves the clinic without explicit post-surgical care instructions in their native language and continued contact with their patient coordinator.

Given our standards of operation and patient care, these comments seem to have no basis. However for the sake of further clarification I welcome direct correspondence with ASMED via our published email address or by phone.
