Discover Bank

The Worst Situations I Have Encountered

This is one of the worst situations I have encountered. My husband, who has cognitive failure, opened a CD late at night on the internet, unbeknownst to me.

He gave them all our banking information including account number and routing number.

I discovered it about an hour later and we proceeded in trying to get the account closed.

Mind you, it had not been funded. There “security” policy would not allow them to close the CD account but they could open it.

We tried through the night to get it closed, to no avail.

We called Discover Bank again and were told they could not close the account or stop from trying to get the funds out of our bank account.

We called them again and they had all their “supervisors” in meetings.

We called back and still the same story, they cannot close the account for “security reasons and their policy”.

I have spent hours on hold waiting for a “manager”.

They pass you along to “managers” after you have been on hold with absolutely no intention of complying with your request.

They will not budge on their policy which is completely inhumane to the mental strain it puts seniors and other unassuming people through.

Be very aware of their practices and make sure passwords are not available to those who do not have the mental capacity to make a good decision.

Discover Bank will have no mercy on the situation.

  1. I even sent a request to USPS to have my mail forwarded just in case.

Had to sign up for an account with my old address, after being rejected numerous times with variations of my current one, and I immediately switched the address over so I could make sure everything was being sent to the right location – I even sent a request to USPS to have my mail forwarded just in case.

After having the account for 2 weeks, and just transferring money over this week from my current FCU, I get an email Wednesday that my account has been suspended. Call up, turns out the account was actually closed because they supposedly called me and sent me letters that I didn’t respond to. My phone shows no calls and I got nothing in the mail.

I accept, say fine, only for Thursday to come around and the money I had transferred over – which I was specifically told would be canceled and sent back to me – has been completed and is now ‘available’ in an account that I can’t use and should no longer exist.

  2. Absolute worst.

Absolute worst. They refused to work with me and return money on my credit card due to a merchant selling me a faulty product. I provided them with so much proof you could write a book and in the end they told me that because the product was “delivered” they can’t do anything about it.

So if they sold me a bag of rocks instead of the product I ordered they’d not return my money either. Closing all my accounts with them. 20 years of using them and this is how they treat me. In the end Taylor the “Escalation Manager” told me if I responded to his messages they will simply not respond back. WHAT A JOKE

  3. Discover put me in an awful situation today.

Discover put me in an awful situation today. I was traveling over 2.5 hours away from my home when I realized my Discover Debit Card was not working. When I called Discover around 8 am, they informed me that my card was deactivated, although it did not expire until 2021, because they sent me a new debit card.

Further review showed that the new card had been returned to Discover and I was never notified. Customer Service initially said that I had been notified of the pending new card but further review showed that I was NEVER notified of the new card or that my current card would be deactivated. I was left 2.5 hours away from home with $20 cash and no access to my account.

The Supervisor offered to wire my money to my account at another bank in order to have access to my money the same day. She agreed to waive the $30 wire fee and assisted me with initiating the wire which I was ENSURED would be delivered to my other account by the end of the business day.

  4. Tried to use Discover Bank online.

Tried to use Discover Bank online. They allowed me to open an account then in two days froze the account claiming they were required by federal law to get a copy of my drivers license. Which is not a federal law. Banks are required to validate the person’s identity.

Ally Bank is an all online bank and they were able to validate my identity without getting a copy of my drivers license. I called, got the usual Discovery Card nonsense customer service.

So, I closed my account and am done with the poorly run Discover company. I won’t use their credit cards, banks, or any product they touch. I thought they might have improved over the years. I was wrong.

  5. Criminals - AVOID

Due to there own internal errors charged me $100 and refused to give it back although they openly admitted they were at fault! No different to being mugged in the streets for 100!! Only difference is these guys do it with a smile on there face and act like they are doing you a favor!

  8. Do not rely on discover because once you need them, they will let you fall.

People apparently try hard to get a discover card but I don’t see why that is a good idea. God help you if you have an issue paying a bill. If you have a dispute on a charge, they are quick to choose the merchant over you forcing you to pay any amount that it could be.

I got stuck with a $2,600 charge that they accepted to the merchant with information they never shared with me. After calling many times about this issue and them knowing my issue for so long with the merchant, they still chose their side. I will never recommend Discover to anyone.

I had a great credit score and always paid my bills on time and this is how they treat their customers when they need them the most. Do not rely on discover because once you need them, they will let you fall.
