Bank of Hope

The Rudest Bank

W.T.F~~! Bank of Hope is probably the rudest bank I have ever been to in my life. I’m a banker myself, but even I’m not this rude to my customers.

I’m actually kinda nice…most of the time. Anyway…I walk in. It’s not crowded at all.

This place closes at 4pm by the way. What kind of bank does that? Back to my story…I walk in to open an account or maybe even couple of accounts.

The people act so nonchalant to their potential client, ME!! Korean ajummas dude.

Sometimes…they can be so rude. So anyway…the lady finally asks me what I need help with.

I tell her that I need to open an account. I sit with her and ask her about the type of accounts she has and the rates for CDs (just wanted to see what Korean banks offer versus my bank).

She talks with an attitude. I got so pissed off. I wanted to piss her off too so I say, “I just want a CD.”

She says, “Excuse me?” I say, “I just want a CD account.” She says, “Okay, do you have an account with us already? How long were you looking to put your money away for?”

I say, “No, I don’t have an account. What is your shortest term for a CD and what’s the minimum opening deposit?”

She says, “7 days and $1,000.00”

I say, (*thinking, WTF? 7 days? weird.*) “Okay, I want a CD for 7 days and I’ll open it with $1,000.00.”

You should’ve seen the look on her face. She and her colleague next to her kept looking at each other like…”Who is this b*tch?”

She actually straight out says, “You’re gonna make me do all the paperwork for a 7 day CD with a $1,000.00 deposit? Why are you opening it? You’re only gonna make $0.63 with this CD. I don’t understand.”

I say, “That’s great. Fabulous. That’s what I want. Please open it now.”

This was about a week ago. I think I need to go in tomorrow to pick up my $1,000.63.

It might’ve been mean of me to do this, but dude~~she started it~!!

  1. Most unprofessional bank I have ever encountered!

Bank of Hope offered an enticing new customer Cash Bonus Event back in July 2021 that compelled me to open a new business checking account. To earn the bonus, I would need to deposit at least $20,000, maintain this balance for at least four months, and fulfill some other easy requirements such as a debit transaction and register for online banking. I scheduled an appointment with a rep at their Annandale location and brought everything required as outlined in the fine promo print. The representative made us wait 30 minutes at our scheduled time while while she finished eating her lunch.

She then rescheduled after telling me that I needed to prove my business credentials and income. Seriously? I was sitting in front of her with my business license, Tax ID forms, Tax returns going back 30 years for my business, and I even had my credit report that showed that I have an 840 credit score. She acted as if I was taking out a mortgage or huge loan, when I was simply trying to put $20,000 of my money into their bank that I don’t plan to touch.

They have been scammed by others that didn’t have a legitimate business and simply wanted the bonus. But I’m sitting in front of her with all these credentials, including my business checks from Bank of America, where I already have accounted for the past 25 years. BOA in the same parking lot never gave me this much hassle, and they are a heck of a lot more reputable and victorious than this wannabe outfit that claims to be a bank. Wait, this story gets even better! According to the promo details, I attempted to come back the next day with the documents she requested, even though they were not required according to the promo details. She refused to help me since they were closing in 45 minutes, and she said it would take an hour to complete. At that point, I called the manager of their Centreville location and asked if he could process my paperwork. He was cordial and agreed to do it.

I drove 25 minutes in a rainstorm to get this done, and we both checked and rechecked everything to ensure that nothing was missing when he submitted my application. He was convinced that it would get approved. A couple of days later, I got informed that it was denied because my Virginia business license was less than six months old, even though I already had a permit for this same business in Maryland for the past 30 years! It made absolutely no sense whatsoever. This bank is either discriminatory, ignorant, or just plain fraudulent. They don’t want to work or earn your business, and I would never trust them with my money. I hope others are wise enough to avoid this crooked bank.

  2. i would recommend a smaller bank to everyone who has had a bad experience with big banks.

I have been with Center Bank for a few years and i can certainly say that it’s one of the nicest Korean banks in LA. No complaints from me. The parking attendatns, security, the tellers, everyones is really nice and fast.
i would recommend a smaller bank to everyone who has had a bad experience with big banks.

  3. might as well use the bigger bank.

The teller that usually helps me is really nice, but the rest of the staff…. work on your customer service. Smaller banks have customer service to count on, without that… might as well use the bigger bank.

  4. Scammer

    What does BBCN stand for????

  5. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE SERVICE.

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE SERVICE. This is why BBCN will never be as big as major banks (CHASE, WELLS FARGO, BOA). I walk in and I overhear tellers talking trash about previous customers.

5 minutes after I walk out of the bank, I get an unknown call so I decide not to pick it up and receive voice mail. It turns out that she was gossiping about me and forgets to hang up the phone when customer approached her.

Good customer service is number one reason that makes banks grow. BBCN lacks good customer service, and that is reason why BBCN won’t be successful.

  6. Such a horrible experience!

They closed my account by compulsion without being informed. Its been a 20days since my account closed, but I still did not get my deposit money yet. Such a horrible experience! Shame on you!!

  7. They have absolutely no set procedures that they are going by.

Every time we go in, depending on who the teller is or the banker is, they give out a different set of rules in terms of what you need in order to change the signatories on my account. They have absolutely no set procedures that they are going by.

  8. They are all crap

They are all crap!!, please be aware of them. I have no choice to close their account.

  9. Now no more action. that's it. Bank of hope is a bank

They escape from their responsibilities of fault. My money was stolen because of their stupid checkup operation system. In spite of their fault I couldn’t receive my refund money. Now no more action. that’s it. Bank of hope is a bank???????.

  10. We've been living out of a box for the last months and just want to have a home.

I wish there was a “no star” rating available. My family has been trying to purchase a home and get a loan through Bank of Hope. We’ve purchased and sold many properties and have enough of experience to say: this is a complete nightmare! The escrow is now 1 month late to close, the lending officer disappeared through out the process,

lied about final fees, asked many documents over and over again… etc. Never go with this bank when you are purchasing a home. We are still waiting to find out our close date, as the per diem is collecting $100/day.

We are lucky that the seller has been nothing but patient and understanding, and has not walked away yet. We’ve been living out of a box for the last months and just want to have a home.

  11. No one works at this bank

No one works at this bank? They don’t answer their phones. what’s wrong with this bank? Answer your phones!
