Umpqua Bank
Customer ServiceUmpqua Bank Endorses Private Lending Practices
WARNING: This is a serious alert to anyone that wants to borrow money but does not have credit.
Do not borrow money from a private lender even if your banker advises you do so…………this is why:
Christy Tenbusch my banker at Umpqua bank in 2010 advised me to borrow money from a private lender to establish a credit rating so she could grant me a conventional loan in one year.
After paying on this loan for a year I was told by Umpqua Bank the payments did not count because the private lender did not report my payments to Equifax, I was trapped and have been trapped ever since.
I have paid over 30K in interest alone. If I had been informed of the Equifax part and how it worked I would never have borrowed from a private lender.
If this comes up in your life find out first if they report your payments to a credit bureau.
Ray Davis CEO of Umpqua Bank seen here on YouTube Nov. 3, 2010 youtube.com/watch?v=yKx_… in an interview with Jeanne Bliss gives his express permission for his employees to do dumb stuff like this.
I have tried to contact Ray Davis about this but he will not reply to me personally.
I have been to a lawyer and have been informed that since the big recession “banks can now do pretty much like they want to and no longer have a legal, moral, ethical or fiduciary duty to their customers” beware of them.
The afore mentioned lawyer advised me not to share this account because Umpqua Bank may sue me for slander but I told the attorney ” the people need to know this, it could save someone else the pain I am experiencing and the truth is the truth it’s just that simple.”
You have my word this account is the truth and ongoing as of Sept
Their statement was that i failed to maintain my account
just tried closing an account with umpqua bank.I went to three different branches and neither would allow me close close my account. The reason is because i am leaving the state and umpqua is not big enough to satisfy my financial needs.
Finally after contacting the fdic and bbb umpqua sent me a check after my account was froze for a month, direct deposits went through though.Their statement was that i failed to maintain my account. ok
Great Service
Great personal service! When you walk into the bank, theft treat you a valued customer and do everything they can to take care of your banking needs. It is service like I haven’t seen at any of the big banks.

My family fled Wells Fargo and moved to Umpqua Bank in late.
If you read enough online reviews of Umpqua banks you begin to see a pattern. The highly positive reviews focus on the friendly people and courteous personal service one receives in the stores.
You also notice a general trend of increasingly positive reviews about customer service over the last several years; evidently a merger a few years ago was a train wreck from a customer service standpoint.
But if the reviewer is more focused on the online banking experience, the reviews are uniformly negative, never higher than three stars.
My family fled Wells Fargo and moved to Umpqua Bank in late. Like most other reviewers we have had very positive experiences with friendliness and commitment to customer satisfaction in all of our interactions at our local branch.
However, if you are a heavy user of online banking, i.e. with several different accounts and using many of the systems’ purported features, you will be very frustrated with the shoddy software that Umpqua has cobbled together. It’s really quite an embarrassment for a bank with such high business aspirations.
And the online/mobile experience is clearly an embarrassment for the friendly staff, who have to cover for the inadequacies and errors that customers experience whenever they stray from personal interactions at the banks’ locations.
