The Corcoran Group

I Was Wholly Unimpressed

My experience with The Corcoran Group Fort Greene and Dexter Quamina, the agent, was nothing to write home about.

I found a studio apartment in Bedford-Stuyvesant that was reasonably priced and went through Corcoran to rent it.

Dexter called me after I signed the lease. It was due to begin on September 1st.

I agreed that it was okay if my lease started on the weekend. I didn’t want to pay rent for an apartment I didn’t own.

Dexter said that this wouldn’t work and that I could arrange cleaning/painting with the building super.

When I arrived, the apartment was clean, but it was filthy on the floors and countertops.

The stove was also covered in food. I called the super to arrange cleaning. He seemed confused and said he would return my call.

The building management agency called me back and told me to pay the super-cleaner/painter.

Dexter called me to clarify the situation. He told me that Corcoran would arrange for the apartment to be cleaned and that he would contact me later in the day.

Dexter was gone. I ended up vacuuming and mopping the floors myself and cleaning the oven and countertops to remove any caked-on food.

I sent my landlord an email to express my frustration with Corcoran, and I CCed Dexter. I got the following reply from him:

“With all due respect, the previous tenant left the apartment in good order.

Because you needed to move in quickly, the cleaning had to be done.

However, you are still responsible for coordinating with your landlord/management company after your move-in date.

When my lease began, I wanted to move in. Additionally, I shouldn’t have to clean the apartment I rented to make it presentable. It should be ready for me to move into upon my arrival.

Dexter replied that I had called the agency (Dexter) but never heard back from them and that I should be more diligent in finding out what I was supposed to do as a tenant and what Corcoran expected of me.

Dexter responded as follows:

Your frustration should be directed at the agency and how they handle the cleaning matter.

Although they cannot accommodate your request, Corcoran treats its clients with professionalism and respect.

Please let us know if there are many things we can do to assist you in this matter.

Ironically, Dexter was the one who did the cleaning poorly.

He was the one I spoke to, and he said he would contact me later in the day.

Dexter seemed more interested in his back-end than trying to correct any miscommunications.

Corcoran’s cleaning experience left me dissatisfied. I felt like Corcoran took my money, and I was ignored. I became a non-entity.

My concerns about the cleaning were ignored, and Corcoran took my money. I felt like a non-entity.

I am aware that Corcoran is an agency with many agents in all parts of NYC.

Unfortunately, I had such a bad experience with Corcoran.

I won’t be renting or purchasing from them again and will recommend Corcoran to my colleagues and friends.

  1. Really Bad Service

About a month before the semester began, I was desperate to find an apartment. This was in December, right after I was accepted at Pratt as a Transfer Student. My commute to class was crazy for a full-time student because I lived in Westchester, 4 hours round trip on public transit.
After being scammed by several brokers, I decided to go online to NY Times Realty to find a legitimate company. We started working together in January, and classes were just about to begin in a few weeks. That’s when Beth Frazier was found.

After many empty promises and listings miraculously disappearing from my feet, I finally ended up in a private home with the same landlord. He initially approved my application for another listing MANY WEEKS back.

It was at the end of February that Beth finally found a place. (My budget was affordable for Bed-Stuy, by the way.) I moved out of my home in March.

I signed a lease between class breaks quickly in front of Beth Frazier (my landlord), who verbally summarized the terms and pointed me to where I should sign them. My landlord began harassing me months later, claiming that the lease was riddled with illegal clauses and she was doing other unlawful acts. Beth Frazier and the same landlord also had legal problems with another tenant. This is like the pair are in cahoots. They all went to court.

Warning: Do not work with Beth Frazier. Always rent units in commercially-owned residencies. Sometimes patience does not pay off.

  2. whenever we need recommendations for contractors and restoration ideas.

Finding a more trusted advisor and the agent was more challenging than Rudy as we purchased our first home. Rudy was highly knowledgeable about the areas of Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, and Bed-Stuy, as well as the entire process.
Rudy is still in touch six months after our move-in. Rudy can be reached whenever we have questions or need to make recommendations about contractors or restoration ideas.

  3. She did NOTHING, NO WORK.

These are the typical scammy RE agents. I am the owner of an apartment in Prospect Heights. I tried to rent it out. I ignored all warnings and decided to give them another chance. Lisa, my agent, seemed invested in our best interests (renting an apartment). That first moment lasted approximately 15 minutes.
She did NOTHING, NO WORK. After harassing her for two weeks, she finally said that the ad was not up on their website. When I called her asking for updates on showings, she didn’t answer and then lied about the date she showed the apartment. I demanded my keys back after four weeks of this rubbish.

She reluctantly agreed. I was informed that I could pick them up at Corcoran at 4 pm. I finally got the keys at 7 pm. I was furious. I was angry that she wasn’t at work as she claimed, and she also refused to pick up the phone.

While I was steaming, the other brokers continued to ignore me. The Corcoran Group is a group of sloppy businessmen. I will now steer people away from them.

  4. Corcorans agents are the worst and they are overpriced

Do yourself a favor and stop wasting your time with this company. Xiomara and her sidekick, who has a lousy weave, are the worst. The apartment th showed us needed repairs, which Xiomara lied to when we spoke.
She assured me that the landlord would take care of all my problems. It is not necessary to say that they weren’t. I am glad that my lease is nearly up so that I can move out of this dump. Corcoran’s agents c be very unpleasant and are extremely expensive

  5. I would give them no star if I could!

They are not worthy of a star, and I wouldn’t give them a lead! We received terrible customer service from a million-dollar vice-president broker.

  6. Gary Kahn at Corcoran is the worst real estate broker ever.

Gary Kahn, Corcoran’s worst real estate broker, is a liar. He is dishonest and untrustworthy. Avoid him at all costs. It makes me wonder if these real estate brokers can add any practical value to society.

  7. Scammer

My experience with Corcoran and Dexter Quamina, the agent, was nothing to write home about. Corcoran helped me find a studio apartment in Bedford-Stuyvesant at a reasonable price. Dexter called me after I signed the lease. The lease was due to begin on September 1st.
I agreed to this, provided my lease would begin that weekend. I didn’t want to pay rent for an apartment I didn’t have access to. Dexter said that this wouldn’t work and that I could arrange cleaning/painting for the building super. When I arrived, the condo was clean, but it was filthy on the floors and countertops. The stove was also covered in food. I called the super to arrange cleaning. He seemed confused and said he would return my call.

The building management called me back, threatening to charge me a fee if I needed the super-clean/paint. Dexter called me to clarify the situation. He told me that Corcoran would arrange for my apartment to be cleaned and that he would contact me later in the day.

Dexter was gone. I ended up vacuuming and mopping the floors myself and cleaning the oven and countertops to remove any caked-on food.
