TD Bank
Fraud ChargesI have been a TD/Commerce customer for over 15 years. I had to close one account because of fraud charges, but my latest account has been open for 14 years.
That’s quite a testament to my loyalty, given there is a bank on nearly every corner in Manhattan.
I can go anywhere. Unfortunately, TD does not treat its customers with any loyalty.
Recently, I fell victim to their Debit Card Advance scam, where they enroll you in overdraft protection w/o your consent (against Federal law) so they can allow charges to go through on your account that would normally be declined because of insufficient funds and then charge you up to $175/day in fees.
When I went to a TD branch to rectify the situation, everyone treated me with disdain and contempt and spoke to me as if I could not understand basic math.
I was a loyal customer for 15+ years, NEVER once with an overdrawn account, but they have lost my business with this scam and their treatment.
Furthermore, they basically told me that none of your money is safe with the bank because anyone with your account number will be allowed to use your account to pay bills online.
If you happen to be a customer like me, with a good account history, they will pay any and all items, even those that overdraw the account, with or without overdraft protection.
You will then need to file all sorts of fraud documents and close down the account and reopen a new one, if you are lucky and you even catch the fraud and a TD investigator sides in your favor.
