SF Fire Credit Union

The worst part is that the customer service

I’ve been a longtime member but am fed up. I’m closing my accounts.I always loved this credit union and recommended it to others. The best thing about it was their customer service. I could always get someone on the phone within 2 minutes and they were helpful and service-oriented.

ATM visits were free, and there were multiple ways to deposit checks: mail or phone. Whatever way you used, the funds were available immediately. The online system was old, but totally worked. All that has changed in the last year. Now you can only deposit checks by phone; if they can’t read the photo of your check, you’re out of luck.

Worse, the funds are no longer available immediately. The entire online system was redesigned and it’s been impossible to access since. I had to set up all my accounts again, my husband was locked out of our joint account for months, and our recurring transfers from other banks were all cancelled.

This all resulted in some very challenging bill-paying for a couple months, and two returned checks. The worst part is that the customer service, which used to be incredible, has gone down the tubes. Now no matter what time of day you call you have to wait for 15-20 minutes because “we are experiencing high call volumes.”

Messages sent to their online help center are never acknowledged or replied to. And the agents are no longer service-oriented. I just called to alert them to the fact that they’d charged me an overdraft fee twice for the same returned check and the agent told me smugly: “that’s part of banking.”

She offered to refund it as a “one time courtesy, but know that if this ever happens again we will not be refunding it.”I’ve been a customer for the better part of a decade and usually keep my accounts in 4 digits.

The only reason I had a returned check was because a) deposits are no longer available immediately and b) I can no longer link my accounts or do automatic transfers. So my math was off by a few dollars on paying my PG&E bill this month, and my bank charged me *twice* for the overdraft fee. And next time that happens, I’ll be out of luck? Yeah, there won’t be a next time. Bye.

Wow, I love them! I am moving ALL of my banking needs here!! I am not a fireman but I figure by banking here I help them to get better terms. I had one problem: they put the wrong spelling on my checks. I let them know and said sorry we will send you more for free. If you are thinking about coming over just go ahead and do it! Blessings!

  3. I have been extremely happy since coming over to SF Fire Credit Union from BA.

I have been extremely happy since coming over to SF Fire Credit Union from BA. I met with a financial planner, who helped me in dealing with Retirement and IRAs. He wasn’t trying to push any sort of service, just wanted to help.

For the first time I have dealt with a financial institution that I trust! Thank you SF Fire Credit Union!! I feel very proud to be part of a community-focused institution that helps support their local members!

  4. I'm recommending her here with all my heart.

I’m traveling in Argentina, and had a problem while trying to buy an international bus ticket online. The Argentinean website charged several times for the ticket, repeating the same transaction over and over, until Visa stopped them.

As a consequence all my funds were blocked by the same pending transaction. On the other hand, the ticket itself, was never issued. Trying to contact the people was impossible, and I was left in a terrible predicament.

I called SF Fire CU and talked to Ms. May Pulido who was very kind, helpful and understanding; and when she saw I had done everything possible; she helped me by cancelling all those fictitious charges, thus liberating my account. I’m recommending her here with all my heart.

  5. Good Service

Thanks to MMM. MMM EXTRA offers 100% per month to usual people like me. There is no bank in the world that provides this grow! Together we can do a lot! #3y56 #MMM_Extra #NetworkMarketing

  6. Great Service

great bank but they do not do foreign currency exchange & should not be listed as such.

  7. A feature that has saved my life at times when I was faced with emergency car repairs with rent due at the same time.

This is the best bank ever. I moved here from Wells Fargo in when WF gouged me for overdraft fees and I’ve never regretted it for a second. I even moved far from San Francisco a few years ago and got a job with a big name bank who offers its employees premium accounts with no monthly service fees and I still refuse to give up my account with SF Fire CU.

The only mild inconvenience I ever experienced with SF Fire CU was when they updated their website and mobile app and I had to learn how to navigate it, but of course they had dedicated phone support specialists just to help with this and now I don’t even remember what the old site looked like.

The only fees they’ve ever charged me was when I overdrafted my account, which they’ll allow you to do up to a specific dollar amount, a feature that has saved my life at times when I was faced with emergency car repairs with rent due at the same time.

  9. I really like the services of this bank.

I really like the services of this bank. I was having some problem with my Credit Card and they were kind enough to send a representative called Mike at my place who was so friendly and he explained me everything in a very simple manner. And solved all my problems and the rest was easy.
