Norwood Bank

Customer Service

For 35 years, I have been a Norwood Cooperative Bank customer.

I had checking, savings, and CDs at Norwood Cooperative Bank for 35 years.

All my bill payments were made online using bill pay.

The Town of Norwood has stopped accepting electronic payments.

So, I filled in all of the information necessary to pay my water bill through the bank. However, they would send me a check.

According to the bank, it will take four days for your mailed check to reach the company paying you.

I sent my bill on 1/30/2019.

The town claimed they didn’t receive the payment by 2/5/2019 (I don’t know if the amount was held before the entry at the processing office or if it never got there). I was then charged a late fee.

I was unable to reach online banking when I called.

The woman continued to insist that I had to submit the check within four days to reach the company.

It is impossible that I did this. I gave details of the due date and the date I wanted the check mailed.

I then asked her to check my account. She looked at an older closed checkbook account and informed me that I hadn’t sent any checks.

After much discussion, she finally discovered the account.

I was then told she couldn’t speak to me because my husband was not on the bill pay. However, I could still go to the bank and add myself.

I explained that we asked for exactly this when we opened our account.

I was told that I had made a mistake. I tried to find out if both my parents’ names were on our savings and checking accounts, but I couldn’t get any information about MY account.

I was placed on hold. She called me back and said that the check was sent out and that the town received it on the 23rd of January.

Banks are not the problem. This is it for me. I am switching banks.

If they treat a customer for a long time like trash, I won’t do business with them.

  1. I don't doubt the accuracy of David K's story.

David K’s story is true to my knowledge. There have been occasional embarrassing mistakes that required a second visit. However, this has not been a common occurrence. The most recent was a transfer from a retirement fund. We have found them to have been a reliable, solid bank with reasonable rates. Since then, they have been our bank for more than thirty years and have been this way. We have had at least one bank account during that time, so we have had the opportunity to compare.
One thing that I love about them is their interest rates. Although they aren’t the highest, they are always “reasonably high.” I have fallen for high-rate offers at other banks over the years, but they usually faded after a year. You have two options: you can follow DepositAccounts and switch banks constantly to get the highest rate, or you can leave your money at Norwood Cooperative, where you will always get a decent pace.

  2. verry rude

They treat you rudely if your account is not open. If you try to cash a check drawn from their bank, even though you’ve been a customer for over twenty years, they still treat customers like garbage.

  3. I very much doubt that I'll do another business with them in the future.

Their policies are transparent, so I have used their mortgage service for the past couple of years. However, they insist on meeting every minor legal requirement, which can cause a lot of inconveniences for customers.
Also, after I paid off my mortgage and had follow-up issues RE late fees that low-level personnel promised to waive, the middle manager of the loan department was very rude and accused me of lying. She refused to connect me with the lower-level personnel. This is why I decided to start a new mortgage business.

I wonder if the co-op’s upper-level managers approve these types of customer service. This behavior is unacceptable at commercial institutions. I would have investigated this further but didn’t want to waste my time. They are unlikely to let me do another business.
