MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center

BAD EXPERIENCE!

I recently went to the ER at the MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center on 8th and what a bad experience! Staff overall seemed unhappy.

The nurses were not personable, did not check on patients while waiting with an IV on my arm.

I asked for a simple glass of water as the medication I was put on made me really thirsty and that glass water never materialized.

I had to ask for a warm blanket as I had fever and chills. The only one who was actually a decent human being was a pregnant nurse who did my X-rays.

The nurse practitioner was confrontational and would interrupt me when she thought that I did not understand her question.

She would say “that was not my question, what I asked…?” So rude! They never checked with me on who my FP provider was.

They sent my records to my GI doctor, not my FP. The worst of it all was the waiting.

I spent over five hours for them to just run a CBC and x-rays. Totally not coming back there. Mediocre service at best.

  1. Not worth the risk.

My husband was life flighted to Mercy in October, I was told he stopped breathing at some point and they worked on him for about 10 minutes, started his heart again and then transferred him to ICU where he laid for 5 days seemingly unconscious on a ventilator.

Only after several days of not waking up they finally decided to test with MR I and found he had no brain activity. So, the family made the decision to remove the vent and he passed October 26. Today, February I received a call from the ICU inquiring as to how David was…

needless so say, this hospital is lacking something. I have so many unanswered questions as to what actually happened to him in the life flight, at the ER, and why they let him lay there for five days when I believe they clearly knew he would never wake up.

I know i’ll never get the answers, but I hope if anyone reads this they will think twice before sending a gravely ill person to this hospital. Not worth the risk.

  2. They put a band aide over what could be a gapping wound!

The goal is to just get you out of there! My grand daughter was just treated for possible sepsis related to a UTI. Labs indicate sepsis and possibly kidney involvement . They gave 350 ml of fluids Tylenol and zofran . Pull the IV out and Center home never giving any antibiotics.

She came because she couldn’t keep her antibiotics down BACTRIM! Which The doctor said they don’t have IV Bactrim… I don’t know what that is I have been giving IV for the last 30 years? I and her mother are both nurses. I am so angry about the lack of concern!!!! They put a band aide over what could be a gapping wound!
