Kansas Spine & Specialty Hospit...

Surgery

Husband had spine surgery. The Kansas Spine hospital billed Medicare, and BCBS for which we pay dearly, but have always paid the bills for surgery with no problems.

The Kansas Spine Anesthesia Corporation which is tied in to the Kansas Spine Hospital arbitrarily billed us as a Workmans Comp work related bill, for the same surgery, so of course Medicare and BCBS denied us.

I have no idea where they got the idea that it was work related. My husband is 78 years old!

I tried talking to them, and to Medicare, and it’s like hitting a brick wall.

So, now we owe $2,000 ! What makes it worse is how bad he was physically when he came out of surgery. He couldn’t even walk.

And they sent him home in my car from Wichita to Scott City Ks which is almost a 4 hr trip and he was in horrid pain.

I felt so bad for him. They don’t even pretend to care about their patients.

It was like they just wanted us to leave because we were too much trouble.

  1. Poor& incompetent billing section

Beware of the billing section, they don’t get the correct info — in other words they don’t VERIFY anything, especially the correct insurance co. They’ll send the claim to whom ever and if it gets turned down they’ll throw you under the bus by turning it straight to COLLECTIONS , they don’t care !!!!! ????????????????????

  2. I am very pleased to recommend this facility.

My primary care doctor set me up with Dr. Lothes who was able to work me into the schedule within a week and set me up for surgery within another week. The hospital sent a packet of instructions and called me the day before for more pre-op information. When my husband and I arrived, the waiting room was crowded and rather noisy.

Per instructions, I had not taken pain medicine before my surgery, and the receptionist instructed that I should not use the restroom in case they needed a urinalysis, and therefore the wait of about an hour felt quite uncomfortable. The receptionist also gives out restaurant-type buzzers for the wait, which seemed rather impersonal.

The surgery prep room was a large room with curtained dividers, and numerous people at different stages of the process. It was also noisy and seemed rather unorganized. But my nurse, anesthesiologist, and doctor all were very professional and attentive.

The best part of my experience was in recovery, where my nurses, CNAs, and physical therapists, attended to my every need. The room was very comfortable and clean, the food was good, and I had the support and care of some very wonderful people. In a talk with one of my caretakers, he explained their purpose, and why it sometimes seemed to be a loud and busy place.

There are people there for 15 minute procedures, and some with chronic conditions, and with dozens of doctors and staff they get through what they can in a day to help to relieve their pain. I am very pleased to recommend this facility.
