IU Health West Hospital

A Day Off Of Work Has Been Wasted

Truth be told IU Health West Hospital (formerly Clarian) is a lovely place with lovely facilities.

Both of my children have been born here and the staff at the Women’s Center was exemplary.

This review concerns an incident shortly afer my 2nd child’s birth for a hernia surgery my wife required after the aformentioned event.

So, my wife schedules a hernia surgery with Tower Surgical, Dr. Andrew Nigh specifically, who has an office inside IU West.

After a date was set we get a call a day later informing us that my wife needs to reschedule, it is for later in the day and this is an exception for a Friday, infering that they’re doing us a favor and we need to be sure to be grateful.

We arrive as scheduled and at registration we are informed that Dr. Nigh’s surgery from earlier in the day has ran long and our appointment has been cancelled.

They tried to call they say but my wife’s phone was off.

A day off of work has been wasted. Arrangements for care of my children, also wasted.

My wife, meanwhile, is eating after being told she couldn’t from 7am until after the surgery. (Surgery was scheduled at 430p)

My wife immediatly calls the office to get the story and reschedule.

Turns out that my wife was able to finagle a confession from a Stacey that no attempt to reach us was ever made (Her phone WAS on and even if it wasn’t it would have gone to voicemail).

Now, Mary Kay, evidently the only employee with the capacity to enter a name on an open appointment, was not in and we wern’t able to reschedule until Monday.

But, hey the good Doctor gets an early start to the weekend and apparently so did Mary Kay despite all of the schedule fixing needed.

Dirty pool Dr. Nigh et. al. Dirty pool. You made the hospital that houses your operation (pun!) look second rate.

  1. Scammer

My daughter explained that when she made this appointment she told the person at the counter that she needed an appointment for an ultrasound. (I was there so I can tell you that’s exactly what she did). Dr. Cruz then told her that she tells all her patients that they should be sure to schedule 2 appointments.

Now this office switches off on Dr.s so you don’t get the same one all the time. We tried to explain to Dr. Cruz that she wasn’t her Dr. the last visit so she couldn’t be the one to tell her and if all the Dr.s do not do the same then how are we to know and besides the point is that we scheduled an ultrasound appointment.

  2. Good Service Provide

I chose having IU Network physicians because of my medical problems and I prefer going to IU West rather than Hendricks Regional in spite of the latter being within walking distance.

This was important because I recently had to have major vascular surgery requiring me to go to Methodist due to its complexity.

  3. Never Again

Now let me regress to her first appointment. They had her name wrong on all the forms so we had to do them all over again. Not too big of a deal but annoying all the same.

Between times we had questions about meds she could take for a cold. We called the office about 6 times and left messages when NOT ONE PERSON called us back.

Of all the appointments my daughter has gone to they NEVER checked her cervix! I know after having kids of my own and she knows after having her son that they should be checking every time she goes.

  4. Unfortunately

Unfortunately, I have been to the ER 3x in the past 18 months with family members. Each time I was there I observed excellent care and concern for my family. The nursing staff was caring and helpful and the physicians were excellent. Last night,

the female Dr in the ER(assisting my mom) had excellent bedside manner and her medical skills were precise and accurate. The paramedic and nurse communicated what was going on and made sure my mom understood what was going on.

I heard negative reviews a few years ago and found them to be untrue in all 3 of my experiences in the this ER.

  6. Go to Methodist downtown

Go to Methodist downtown, if you desire to live. Nuff said? Signed; Son of Helen Van Dyke

  7. I've spent a LOT of time at this hospital and have enjoyed excellent care by friendly

I’ve spent a LOT of time at this hospital and have enjoyed excellent care by friendly, competent staff both in the hospital and at MANY of the doctor’s offices. I do know my backside from a hole in the ground in medical matters.

I shudder to think about having it done at Hendricks or by not having access to the IU surgeons who both worked together to produce a successful outcome.

  8. Worst hospital ever, told the so called doctor

Worst hospital ever, told the so called doctor, what brought me in and he totally blew me off. Didn’t listen to one thing I said, then proceeds to tell me what wasn’t wrong with me and refused to treat me. I would rather die than go back their.

  9. Props to the entire IU Health West ED team and keep up the good work.

As someone who has witnessed firsthand how an emergency department runs, I can say that everyone in the ER works their hardest to keep it running efficiently.

If you spend a long time in the waiting room, it’s not because the ER is a bad one or anything. It’s because the physicians, PAs, NPs, nurses, and techs are all working hard in the back to be able to admit or discharge people but their conditions are more demanding than others.

There’s nothing to do about the occasionally slow waiting room other than hang on a little longer and be glad that your condition isn’t bad enough that they brought you to the back immediately. It’s not a first come-first serve basis. It depends on how bad your condition is. Props to the entire IU Health West ED team and keep up the good work.

  10. I drive to Hendrick's now every time

ER is horrible, spent 2 hrs for them to say they are sending us to Riley and Riley is waiting for you, get to Riley and they had no idea who we where. I drive to Hendrick’s now every time

  11. Please do not deliver your child here at this maternity ward!

Please do not deliver your child here at this maternity ward! The doctors I had did not care about me at all. I was too afraid to leave but that was the biggest mistake of my life. It almost cost me and my child’s lives.

I told them something was wrong for months and they just looked at me like I was a dumb first-time mom. They always sent me back home. I had to go to St. Vincent’s just for them to keep me overnight.

I asked them to see if I could deliver early because my son wasn’t doing well in there. They made me go to week 41 and by then I was so traumatized (because they kept sending me home after a shot to stop my labor) that my husband made me go to the ER. They gave me another shot to stop it (at 41 weeks!) but since it didn’t they admitted me.

  12. This is completely unacceptable!

My child had an accident at school and being this was the closest hospital i figured it would have been best place to go. That day was the 1st and last time ever going and i would not reccommend to go here. They was in no big hurry to do anything we was in the room alone more then a nurse or a dr was in there.

  13. IU West Orthopedics are a hot mess.

IU West Orthopedics are a hot mess. They wanted my son to come in for surgery with no notice at all!!!! even though he had eaten. Then scheduled it for the next morning at 7:45, reminding me not to let him eat?

So they scheduled it, then Satan, ‘Trish Woods’, called to shout at me, treat me like a child…and make me cry (I have anxiety and am having a Lupus Flair), about calling my insurance because they didn’t know if it would be accepted,

EVEN though they scheduled the appointment way earlier in the day (why didn’t they check then?). I called insurance asap and called IU back asap.

  14. I ordered CPAP supplies from IU Health Home Care at IU west

I ordered CPAP supplies from IU Health Home Care at IU west. They sent me supplies that I did not order. They expected me to pay a restocking fee to return them. I did not return them. The then expected me to pay over $91 for the supplies that I did not order. The turned me in to a collection agency.

  15. No Demerol

I have had no option but to eat at the IU West cafeteria numerous (20+) times, and without exception, the experience has been awful.
ALSO, the ER made 2 errors (which I repeatedly corrected with the doctor at the time of ER visit) on a report to my PCP.

ALSO, when I had a colonoscopy, I requested “No Demerol” because it does not work. I was given Demerol..was mostly awake for the procedure; it was painful, but I was told they had maxed out the dosage, and could not give me more.

AFTERWARDS, I kept asking to keep me longer because I did not feel well…did not feel “right”. I was strongly advised to sign the release form. On the way home, I began vomiting blood, and spent the next 7 hours at ER. (different ER visit than discribed above)
