In or Out Tax ServiceINSANE Experience
I had the most INSANE experience with In or Out Tax Service last year. I got my stuff in late February. They wouldn’t return emails in the weeks leading up to 4/15.
Then I got an email ON 4/15 that they were filing for an extension.
No follow up, wouldn’t return calls. I showed up and asked for my file and the woman at the door said Eve was handling my file and wasn’t in.
I asked her to call Eve. She said Eve didn’t have her phone.
I came back later that day for my file and asked for Eve, and learned that Eve was actually the SAME WOMAN who told me earlier that Eve wasn’t there. WTF?
I explained that everything they were doing was a mess and they had been basically ignoring me for months and all I wanted was to get my documents and start over.
THEN, Eve’s husband said that they had been communicating with my husband by text the entire time, and it was MY husband’s fault for not telling me.
All of that was a blatant and weird lie as my husband had never talked to anyone at their office.
I took my file and left. THEN, somehow they filed my taxes WITHOUT me reviewing or even signing them!
THEN, it turned out they screwed them up royally, so I had to get a new person to undo two years of their errors at great expense.
I have no idea what kind of crazy is going on there, but keep your finances away from them!

We wanted to support a small, local business, but they acted unprofessional,
After having successfully filed our taxes with In or Out last year, we came back this year with our taxes which included our first time home buyer credit. This was not a smart move. From neglecting our phone calls and emails, to sheer forgetfulness, we were disappointed.
But when they shredded our original documents (home buyer documents) we were incensed. But we were greeted with no apology, no explanation for their mistake. We wanted to support a small, local business, but they acted unprofessional, inexperienced, and paid no attention to customer service.
I would not recommend this business to anyone. The lack of professionalism is astounding.
First, they gave our taxes to a new hire who took too long. We kept having to tell the young woman what she needed and what the rules were. Then, they gave us the summary and had us make out a check to the Feds for what was owed. They supposedly then filed online. But they never filed our state or federal taxes.
When we finally realized that they hadn’t filed and called them to inquire why, they simply said that they made a mistake. Moreover, when they then went back to file the taxes they realized that they had made a mistake on the return itself.
They had changed the amounts but never bothered to tell us! This means that the amount that they had us send the Feds in payment was too much. So here we are now in August with taxes that have just been filed and an over-payment to the Feds that will have to refunded. They never apologized or offered to return all or part of their fee.
As unprofessional as it gets!
It’s September now and my taxes still aren’t done. I had a meeting with Eve in December to get the ball rolling and paid a deposit to have them done by February or March at the latest.
Extremely poor communication, excuses and delays. Eve took the liberty of filing an extension without asking and still has nothing to show. She has ignored all communication from me via phone, e-mail and certified letter.
Please DO NOT USE this guy.
Untrue–no phone calls or emails to let me know my taxes were done. They also told me that there had been a death in the office and that this made things crazy for everyone and that they would be filing late penalty waivers on behalf of their clients–so it seemed they were taking responsibility. When I went in to pick up my taxes ,
the credit that I had first mentioned I was eligible for had not been applied, so another accountant agreed to redo it and have me pick up the paperwork a few days later. Of course, my taxes were late already and now even later and so I was being penalized with late fees.
When I asked what would be done to compensate me for the late penalties I was being charged by both OR and the IRS due to In Or Out’s actions, they offered to write penalty waiver letters on my behalf. Neither letter resulted in getting the penalties waived. Their attitude was that this was somehow not their responsibility and that they were doing me a big favor.
This year I went to In or Out in early March to have my taxes done. I told the accountant who took my case some of the credits I was eligible for during our first meeting. He asked me to send him some more information and so I did the following day. A week later I emailed him to see if the information had been received and was correct.
No response. So I emailed the main office and eventually heard back that they had received what was needed. The filing deadline approached and passed with no word that my taxes were ready. I emailed the accountant and received no reply. So I called the main line and was told they had been ready and that I was notified and never came to pick them up.
