Homeamerican Mortgage Corporation

The Most Frustrating Company

Homeamerican Mortgage Corporation has been the most frustrating company to work with. They are processing our mortgage for a Richmond America home.

We started this process on Dec. 31st, 2017; and we’re scheduled to close a week from today.

About a week ago, they needed a copy of a check for a credit card payment. From December.

They have all of our bank statements and could see that exact amount going to the credit card, but needed to see the check.

This wouldn’t have upset me except someone should have reviewed this about 6 months ago.

At this point, computers, printer etc have already been packed.

Now, today, exactly 2 week before we are to close, the are missing forms that WERE signed Jan. 12th.

And they say they weren’t signed, so the system automatically mailed them hard copies, in January .

They are saying they were never returned. Well they weren’t returned because they weren’t sent.

Mind you, we’ve dealt with a loan processor who couldn’t get it through her head that a payment was made from an account that has never had checks associated with it, but still wanted a canceled check.

It took 20 minutes to get through to her there was no canceled check.

We’ve had 2 loan officers. But their lack of loan review has made their emergency, our emergency.

They sent the paperwork that needs to be signed, which again, I have no printer, it’s packed.

And I’ve been waiting 10 minutes (at least) for these forms to open on my iPad.

Who knows if it will ever load. So no idea if I could print them, even if I had a printer.

If you want to be frustrated, use HomeAmerican Mortgage.

Otherwise, no matter how much they offer, turn them down and go with a local company.

  1. DISCRIMINATES AGAINST SELF EMPLOYMENT!!! EVEN IF YOU ARE VERY PROFITABLE

I guarantee the President or Vice President of HomeAmerican Mortgage could NOT get a loan from their own company if they could apply without anyone knowing who they were.

AND they don’t care how bad their reviews are; I called and left a message for the President and sent him an email, and he did not respond.

We applied for a loan with HomeAmerican Mortgage in February 2021 because our builder was offering a 17K credit. It took them two months to process and asked us for pages and information, and then they still drug their feet until the closing date.

All our neighbors were moving in, and we weren’t even close to getting approved. Keep in mind we have over 800 credit scores, a high income, and ZERO debt.

We were only borrowing about 25% of the cost of the home. This should have been a slam dunk, and our salesmen who sold us the house said we were the perfect lenders. HomeAmerican said it was because even though we had a great W-2 (six figures), we were business owners also, which made us self-employed (K-1s).

Our businesses are very profitable, so what is the problem? They said their computer didn’t know how to process self-employed with us also having a W-2 and being employed.

I don’t buy it, I don’t think they wanted to give up the 17K incentive cash, so it is a bait and switch. Very underhanded! We ended up just paying money (from the sale of our previous home), so we could get into our home, and it was too late to get another lender. Many people cannot pay cash from another house and are just stuck.

They would not get the 17K builder/lender incentive. They could not move into their home when it is finished and then have to go to another lender, which delays the whole process. This repeatedly happens when I talk to 5 of my neighbors and read other reviews.

Someone should sue them for this because it cannot be right! Why are they in business if they don’t want to lend money? Is this some cover for something else? It is a mystery that someone needs to unfold. I have never sued anyone in my life, but this situation had me considering it.

If someone does sue, please let me know so I can get the satisfaction of knowing they got what was coming to them. The amount of stress HomeAmerican Mortgage causes people is a travesty! Shame on HomeAmerican Mortgage!

  2. We actually had to terminate the deal at a large cost to us.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Homeamerican drug my partner and I along on a finished home purchase for 3 months. Even though we had over 20% for a down payment and excellent credit, they denied our lending without providing a reason. It is my understanding that this practice is actually illegal because it indicates that there is mortgage discrimination, some thing that should be looked into regarding this company. They connect a 15,000$ discount on to the purchase of a home if you use them as a lender but then do a very poor job with high closing costs and interest rates.

This is not how business should be done. They were not upfront with the process or price and took over a month to respond to simple questions. It was the worst mortgage acquisition experience of my life. We actually had to terminate the deal at a large cost to us.
