GymNation Dubai
GymNation won’t let me cancel my membershipI paid for a three-month membership plan to GymNation. This was back in January this year. I continued to use the facility for a month and a half. However, because I kept traveling for work too much, I couldn’t continue.
Figuring out that it would be impossible to go to the gym consistently, I planned to cancel my membership. Hence, I emailed them in February that I would like to cancel my membership to their gym.
And I also mentioned if there was any chance they could refund some amount as I won’t be using their facility any further. And I had already paid in advance for three months.
These guys did not reply to my email. After a week, I called the center myself and asked them to check the mail and send me a confirmation about the cancellation of my membership. Also, I checked on the phone if they could partially refund the amount.
However, the person on the other side informed me that they do not entertain refunds. Also, he suggested emailing them about the membership cancellation again. Well, I am a busy man. But I felt like forwarding the last email won’t take much time. So, I did it without asking any further questions.
The next day, I had to leave for another city meeting. My stay was for a month. Hence, I forgot about checking the email confirmation from GymNation and went for my appointment.
I believed they would have done the needful by now. So, I did not bother. However, I started getting calls from debt recovery agencies when I returned. And they have been calling since then. It has been almost a month, and they won’t stop.
According to these people, starting in April, I haven’t paid for my membership. This is disgusting. I already have the proof that I requested for the membership cancellation.
I even called them to ensure it was done. But they won’t let me get off their membership list. This is fraud. GymNation cannot force me to stay a member of their fitness club. Their contract nowhere mentioned that I could not cancel my membership whenever I wanted.
The debt collection guys keep calling me at odd times. I have blocked a few numbers. But they use different numbers to call me every time. And they are abusive and use inappropriate words. Not only is this unethical, but it’s also very frustrating.
I am not sure how to work this out. I also visited their center and asked to resolve the problem sooner. They said that they had never received my email and I must pay the remaining balance.
They also said that they would only cancel my membership if I made the payment. Until then, the amount will keep adding on. I guess they make money by harassing people. I am sure I am not alone in facing this problem.
