Georgia’s Own Credit Union

Not Very Professional

Georgia’s Own Credit Union is not very professional. We used them for business but even when we use our business debit card to order from established vendors, it works once or twice and than they decline the charges out of security reasons.

We have plenty of money on the accounts! They can’t seem to create lists to have approved companies that charge to our card.

So we can’t order the products we need and they waste our time.

So if you look for a professional CU, go look somewhere else. This is not it.

  1. Overdraft fees they never reversed when my account had money in it

This credit union has terrible customer service. I got an overdraft fee of $35 even though my account was not overdrawn and the customer service rep even agreed it shouldn’t have happened. They never gave me the money back. And I keep getting random fraud charges that they won’t even investigate. I tried to open a case and never received any info or responses, though I contacted them several times. When I did finally get someone to respond they offered to close my account as soon as I paid the $35 they took from me. It’s almost impossible to even get to speak to customer service and I have been with them for over 20 years and they absolutely did nothing to help me or keep me as a customer. Horrible experience.

  2. The Dept of Banking and Finance should shut this place down.

The absolute worst customer experience I have ever experienced. From the moment I stepped foot in one of their branches, I should’ve walked away and never looked back. The branch service and knowledge of products is a joke. Their 1-800 # is even worse.

I’ve tried no less than 5 times to get through to someone to ask a simple questions and the call either drops, is routed through to the wrong department via the auto-attendant, then transferred three more times, then transferred to a call back feature to hold my place in line only to never receive a call back.

I have re-fi’d my existing HELOC loan with them to an inferior product on paper just to get away from this bank. The Dept of Banking and Finance should shut this place down.

  3. There have been multiple messages for two weeks now, no courtesy call back regarding the points problem,

The worse continuing service with the Ga’s Own Cr Union, their Rewards Flex Points, and, Travel Programs, and, even making purchases. Denied a tv purchase because I usually don’t purchase high priced items, which turned into 5 tv’s and a nightmare, over a month to resolve that mess.

Tried booking tickets last fall, with accumulated points, and, just incompetent, gave up, and, tried again in March to get info for another trip and what a telephone nightmare, again, but, supposedly all resolved to use the points for airline tickets!

So, went to use the points in July, with all owners checked and double checked, points reviewed, etc… and over 5 hours on a telephone over 3 days to get those points (even have an abundance of points) somewhat resolved for 2 plane tickets, but, advised by travel and flex points an incorrect calculation and 2 weeks later still waiting for a return call from the Ga’s Own Cr Union to resolve that issue.

We have excellent cr, never any card issues, pay every month for approximately 20 yrs, full balance, and, on time, about at my total exhaustion point with them and no one can still help or calls about the reward points issue, from the Cr Union itself, where I am being referred to discuss the problem! There have been multiple messages for two weeks now, no courtesy call back regarding the points problem,

  4. Opened an account in my name without my consent

Opened an account in my name without my consent, then took over two hours for me to get a hold of someone from customer support who could correct the mistake.

  5. Read the fine print carefully if you have co-signers on your bank accounts and debts with this credit union.

Read the fine print carefully if you have co-signers on your bank accounts and debts with this credit union. Was told that I became personally liable for my deceased mother’s debts (even though I wasn’t a signer/user on her credit card) due to the Credit Union Agreement that my mother signed. I would never take my own personal business here!

From their website: “A surviving owner’s interest is subject to the Credit Union’s statutory lien for the deceased owner’s obligations, and to any
security interest or pledge granted by a deceased owner, even if a surviving owner did not consent to it.
