First Republic Bank

Tried to bargain with me about getting an adjustment

I first opened an account at the West Portal branch and had a GREAT representative who helped me with a Home Equity Line of Credit. Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful. Then when I needed an adjustment to my HELOC I called the rep and learned he no longer worked at First Republic. Bummer…such a nice guy.

I got connected then to Brett at another office who really surprised me when I asked simply to get the same HELOC rate they were offering new customers at the time. He tried to bargain with me about getting an adjustment, like he would do me that favor if I just deposited more money. Thanks for nothing.

When they opened the Noe Valley branch in my neighborhood I thought I would stop in and talk to a loan officer. The front desk person could not find someone, but promised someone would call me back. Never happened. I did pursue it further and finally speak to someone and was told “sorry, we can’t make an adjustment.”

I feel trapped. Bottom line: I may be paying more for my HELOC than you if you walked in there now, but be forewarned: They are not as accommodating as they’d like you to believe.

  1. Web front end has none of the capabilities of Wells Fargo.

Over priced services and uncompetitive rates across all products. Few branches and few ATMs – yes they return fees, but that doesn’t help if you’re depositing a check.

Web front end has none of the capabilities of Wells Fargo. Service is overrated as well – lots of attitude, and too many mistakes.

  2. never would i ever recommend this bank.

i can’t go into detail, but if i could, you would bank elsewhere. never would i ever recommend this bank.

  3. Do not be fooled by the their

Do not be fooled by the their “it is a privilege to serve you” and other similar statements and courtesies by FRB. It is Just another big bank.Certainly they do not care how much they hurt you when you need them to be flexible EVEN if it will not cost them.

They are great when all is well!! The moment you need their services or help regardless how great you performed with them in the last 10 years …THEY DO NOT GIVE A DIME ABOUT YOU!!!! a more appropriate slogan for them in my opinion would be ‘IT IS A PRIVILEDGE TO F…YOU!!”

  4. Now I wish I just wired it out). Safer to travel with cash than put it here.

Like a bad friend, they are wonderful when things are flowing smoothly, but when problems occur, they save themselves at your expense(unless you have millions in your account). When I worked there everyone was nice and it actually was the best job I have ever had, but when I quit I got a new banker who didn’t really care about me (perhaps because I didn’t have much money in the account).

They hit me with tons of fees due to obvious bank errors and only reimbursed me 25%. The banker was very embarrassed about the situation, but she wanted to keep her job, so she had to give me the unsolicited excuse that “FRB is not a fee-based bank.”

I had to close the account from abroad to cut my losses and they ‘accidentally’ sent the cashiers check containing the remaining balance in my name instead of my brothers as I requested(whether or not this is possible, I was told it was. Now I wish I just wired it out). Safer to travel with cash than put it here.
