Dr. Scott Mosser

Poor Communication

After a MONTH with speaking with the insurance representative for Dr. Scott Mosser, it wasn’t until I just asked that I was informed I would need to pay my deductible and co-insurance amount UP FRONT.

This automatically crossed Mosser off my list as my potential top surgeon since I would be an out-of-state patient paying hundreds of dollars for travel expenses, and then to be told I owed all the money before I scheduled the surgery.

I just can’t believe they would wait a whole month to tell me this!

This just goes to show that you need to ask as many questions as possible and maybe have a better communicator as your insurance representative or ask to speak to their supervisor.

  1. I had my surgery done I am now nearly two weeks post-op.

I had my surgery done I am now nearly two weeks post-op. The results have far exceeded my expectations going into it. I had a double incision mastectomy with nipple grafts. Trans man / ftm top surgery.
Dr. Mosser has great bedside manner, and was genuinely caring about creating the chest that would make me happy, and help me minimize or put a stop to my dysphoria.

My chest is healing great at a few days shy of 2weeks, the incision lines are thin, and in some places you hardly see them. He followed my peck line flawlessly. My nipples are more and more pink every day, as they are also healing very well. I never thought I would have such great results, especially because I am a large guy, at 6’2″ 290 lbs.

  2. I also love the use of technology to streamline the process.

Dr. Mosser is a dedicated, compassionate and talented surgeon who makes dreams come true. Big THANK YOU – Dr. Mosser, Cindy and all of the office team. Everyone did a great job. I also love the use of technology to streamline the process.

  3. My experience with Dr. Mosser was really great

My experience with Dr. Mosser was really great! I got double incision chest reconstruction surgery. Everyone at the office was extremely nice, called me by the correct name and pronouns.

Cindy was always extremely quick to respond to emails and was always willing to help, even with all of my questions. I would recommend him and his staff to anyone.

  4. I was a patient of Dr. Mosser for my surgery of mastectomy.

I was a patient of Dr. Mosser for my surgery of mastectomy. Since I am a student, I have financial limitations. However, Dr. Mosser welcomed me as an excellent candidate for the surgery. Mary and Georgina are very nice and helpful receptionists, Jennifer helped me to deal with insurance, Cindy helped me with hospital procedures.

And I was operated at the Saint Francis Hospital in SF. It’s a good hospital with good services. Dr Mosser did a good job and I even didn’t need to use pain-killer after the surgery.

My wounds were healed as expectation without any infection and I made several follow-up visits. When I showed my new chest to my friends, they all had good comments about the good shape of my breasts even I didn’t use hormone at all.

  5. A great experience all round.

I have received both BBL and Halo at Azala – BBL for my chest area (which had some mild sun damage) and the Halo for full face. I am so pleased with the results and will definitely be returning regularly for ongoing treatment.

These lasers are gentle but so effective. I really have noticed the difference and my skin has never looked so good and that is after only 1 treatment. Azala is a beautiful facility were real thought and attention has gone into every detail. A great experience all round.

  6. He is one of the best.

Absolutely amazing. Went there for a double mastectomy and was so impressed by my results. The staff is so kind and helpful. All the instructions for the recovery were very thorough and they give you everything you need. I wouldn’t recommend anyone else. He is one of the best.

  7. You would NEVER know I had surgery.

He butchered my face when he did injectables on my cheeks. There was blood and he was aggressive, unlike my other experiences getting injections. Unbelievably, after it was over, he told me that he had done two different kinds of injectables, one kind on each cheek.

He said the bottles were marked the same, which is hard to believe. My face looked lumpy and very uneven for a month. When the dust settled, I got it fixed but I have to keep going back to get it fixed again and again since one filler lasts two years and the other only a few months. Try Artful Aesthetics in Oakland for injections.

He is a really great choice for breast augmentation, which all I have had done by Dr. Mosser. In addition, like his staff, he is professional and kind.

My breasts look incredibly natural. He advised me to go a little smaller than I did because of my frame and that most of his SF patients go smaller 🙂 I went with the bigger silicone implants, deciding ahead of time that if it looked like I had breast implants due to the large size, that was ok. Well, it doesn’t- at all. Sure they ripple when I move in certain ways but head on, you would NEVER know I had surgery.

  8. Through out the entire appointment he had a very "Leave it up to me" attitude which left me feeling extremely uncomfortable.

I had interviewed with many doctors in the San Francisco area and I had done a lot of research so I knew the answers to my questions before i asked them. It was shocking to me how little Dr. Mosser knew. I was 18 years old at the time and had hopes to have a breast augmentation and when discussing with Dr. Mosser I was surprised that he pressed for me to use Silicone, knowing that I am under 22 years old.

When I reminded him of the law that doesn’t allow women under the age of 22 to use silicone implants, he had “forgotten.” Also, he never asked me at what age I started my period. Seeing how women are still developing for 2-4 years post menses onset, that makes a big difference if i had just started my period at the age of 16 or 17.

Thirdly, he had me trying on different size implants but when I would ask for the size number we decided on, he told me not to worry and that we would discuss it at the pre-op, the day before surgery.

I wanted to know what size was going in my body and that there wouldn’t be any confusion later on. Through out the entire appointment he had a very “Leave it up to me” attitude which left me feeling extremely uncomfortable.

  9. I would not recommend him.

I recently had a tummy tuck on Sept and I came out with alot of pain leaking tubes, and ears on the side of my stomach the doctor never explain that i would look worse than what i when in with.

I’m so disappointed with the results i should of known because my co-worker had the same surgery with him and same problem dislike. I told him the day of surgery do he think i should of had lipo on the sides and he said “he did’nt think of that” and it was too late.

After the surgery i went back for post op which was in Nov and ask for him to do lipo on the sides because i look worse and was very unhappy and he was going to charge me 5500.00 dollars and just 300 dollars off. I would not recommend him.

  10. Very disapointing

The surgery made no difference and in my opinion I ended up worse than before, A total of $8000 worse off. I’m now having to go to LA to try again. I had the usual photos taken at the time and then shown what he could do could for me. Needless to say it did not work. No point in complaining. If my problem could not be fixed the first time then it would not be fixed with a second operation

  11. I'm going to have to agree with the other one star reviews here.

I’m going to have to agree with the other one star reviews here. I am posting under an alias since Dr Mosser and staff follow these reviews religiously and I don’t want to have contact with them anymore.

But I believe that he has done so many procedures that he has gotten overly confident and has forgotten just what a big decision it is for his patients to have a procedure done.

I had a fairly simple procedure done and am not happy at all with the results. I advise everyone out there to get a second opinion and a second consultation. Find a dr you feel comfy with. Here, they seem concerned for you in the beginning, but once they’ve taken your money, that care and concern seem to decline rapidly.

  12. I am genuinely disappointed.

I traveled from Northern Marin for this visit on a referral by the most gracious Dr. Eshima. I had asked the Mosser team to ascertain in advance whether/not Dr. Mosser did the specific kind of work I was seeking and, after consulting w/ him, I received a call back confirming that he was indeed experienced in the procedure(s) I was interested in.

Before I could even check in at the desk I witnessed a harried Dr. Mosser stating to his receptionist: “I’m trying really hard to get out of here.” I expressed concern that Dr. Mosser might not have enough time for a full consult, but his receptionist told me not to worry.

Unfortunately, his clearly stated time constraints resulted in my leaving the office with no clear understanding of what my options were or what those options would entail. Dr. Mosser did refer me to another surgeon; however, the procedures I was seeking were not even offered there.

I tried for three subsequent days to get an authentic referall from Dr. Mosser’s office to no avail. This is no way to treat a patient who is genuinely seeking help. After all, patients generally do go to physicians because they are seeking help about something of personal concern to them.

I do believe that if Dr. Mosser had been willing to give this a scintilla of thought I would now have a viable referral. I wasn’t seeking two heads; just some help with loose skin around the neck. I am genuinely disappointed.

  13. So this review is ONLY for a consultation.

So this review is ONLY for a consultation. Dr. Mosser didn’t do any surgery on me, and I only went for one consultation. The reason I’m givign the low star is because I had done research online and had a procedure in mind to be done on my face.

Dr. Mosser was the first consultation that I had. He was very nice and polite, and told me that he could do the surgery that I wanted no problem, gave me a price quote and sent me on my way. I was feeling pretty good about the experience, and was leaning towards having him do it.

However, I decided to do a few more consultationsjust to make sure I had done my due diligence. Both of the other physicians told me that the procedure that I was asking for wasn’t what I really wanted.

They told me that what I asked for (thanks Internet) wouldn’t fix the problem that I wanted to address, and in fact would probably make my situation worse because it would throw off some of the positive aesthetic lines I had. Both of them recommended a different procedure, which I had a different doctor perform that worked out very well.

It bothers me that Dr. Mosser didn’t really provide the critical advice that I needed, and was willing to let me do whatever I wanted even if it wouldn’t have been the best result.

  14. Really Bad

I paid $20k for a facelift that wasn’t. Back to square one.

  15. I just can't believe they would wait a whole month to tell me this!
