Dr. Lowe Franklin

Behavior Is Intolerable

My husband chose another doctor so I finally get to post this review.

My husband and I went through a traumatic and emotional experience.

In our raw and sensitive state Dr. Lowe Franklin made an offensive remark against me and my relationship.

About two years ago my husband, then boyfriend, went to the ER.

While the doctor (not Lowe) was checking vitals some reading made it appear as though my husband was about to go into cardiac arrest.

The conversation changed from “how old are you?” to “are you on cocaine?” in two seconds.

Six to eight attendants rushed the room and hooked him up to what seemed like every machine available and injected him with chemicals to stop him from having a heart attack.

Long story short, he was not going to have a heart attack but they kept him overnight for observation.

We started the night at a family dinner and I left my healthy boyfriend at the hospital to go home alone.

It was a horribly painful feeling to leave him but the nurses said I had to go.

The next day I went back to the hospital as soon as visiting hours were open.

After a while Dr. Lowe came in to check up. When Dr. Lowe found out were were not married and living together he turned to me and said “Oh, well you know what they say about the cow giving away milk for free.”

I was so shocked I couldn’t say anything. I probably had about four hours of restless sleep worrying about my partner and this arrogant bastard wants to make pointless intrusive comments against the patient’s girlfriend?

He may be an amazing doctor but his obnoxious, self righteous behavior is intolerable.

  1. Time doesn't matter.

Time doesn’t matter. I left his office at. 10 last night and he was still smiling. I was smiling when I woke up the next morning.

  2. And give him a hug if he slows down enough so you can catch him! But - bring a sweater!

Bring a great book and enjoy the down time while you wait – also a sweater, as his office is always freezing. It takes hours to get in and out of a Dr. Lowe visit, but those hours are rewarded by the most caring, attentive, and well informed doctor ever.

If he doesn’t know the answer to something, he consults his I-phone, or brings in a specialist for an answer. He questions the results on diagnostic tests – calling personally and talking with the doctor who reviewed the results and pointing out potential inconsistencies.

He is blunt – tells you when you need to lose weight or even perhaps get out of an unhealthy relationship – but is that a bad thing? Sometimes we need to hear the truth! As one of his first patients – over 30 years and one of two of his original patients still alive – I can vouch for this wonderful, caring man. He follows up religiously and gives you all the attention you need to try to get the right answers to keeping you healthy.

Waiting – yes – don’t expect to just pop in and out of his office. Bring that good book or a couple of great magazines, relax and take some self time, then be there to be taken care of by the best physician who ever walked the earth! And give him a hug if he slows down enough so you can catch him! But – bring a sweater!

  3. It made me feel my concerns were unimportant and caused a lack of trust in his overall judgment.

In relating to another post about this DR not listening to your concerns I had written a short list of things to speak to him about. I referred to the list and asked him my first question.

Instead of answering he jerked the list out of my hand and never referred to it or anything on it after that. Rude is an understatement for him. It made me feel my concerns were unimportant and caused a lack of trust in his overall judgment.

  4. My late husband and I were patients of Dr. Lowe.

My late husband and I were patients of Dr. Lowe. I dutifully defended him regarding his multiple hour waiting times, months to get a staff member to take 3 minutes to deal with an online quickie authorization or referral.

It once took over a year (no joke) for someone to complete a one page request for a non-formulary drug. Names, addresses 4 check boxes and a signature. I had to “follow up” for months to get most referrals processed.

Staff turnover has been a nightmare. When he announced that he was going concierge I did everything to stay. My husband was a 100% disabled veteran who put in 30 years of active duty service, even after losing a wife and two children. As a senior widow, my husband’s death left me emotionally and financially devastated.

The military health insurance that we have is affordable but does require that my PCM take, literally, 2-3 minutes to process a referral for a specialist. I made sure that I made an appt 2 weeks before he stopped being a Tricare provider. He was to have processed a new referral for my existing orthopedist (post polio, advanced joint disease, diabetic and much more) a neurologist, gynecologist and podiatrist.

I called to find out what the hold up was and found that Lowe’s office processed ZERO of those requests for service. I have no recourse, my knee is the size of a cantelope and I can barely put my right foot on the ground.

My loyalty, patience and support through years of 5-7 hour office visits, constantly having to follow up for months and more for prescription and service requests did not even deserve 15 minutes attention, despite planning, to see that I would get some much needed medical care.
