I went Dr. Jeffrey Binstock for a skin check. I grew up in the sun and have a family history of skin cancer.
He barely glanced at me and said i was fine. What a joke!
I have had skin checks from at least half a dozen doctors; never have I not been given less than a minute for a thorough check.
I had to make another appointment with a different dermatologist so ensure that I had a thorough body check.
What a waste of my time and yes, they were also running 1/2 hour behind. *I went in on 10/16.
Today is 11/3 and they still don’t have the results from the biopsy they took.
They told me no later than 10 business days. Another mistruth.

And that's how I found a new doctor.
I have given this guy 2 stars only because I feel he is well qualified to treat skin problems. But I have reviewed other reviews here to see if they have squared with my experience here. In short , they did.
All seem to agree this guy is not somebody you can warm up to. And he doesn’t care either about that. The first time I went there, he had some Russian girl working there who felt it was her job to boss you around and tell you to “Sit Here” in a brusk tone of voice.
I later commented to him about how this girl was not longer here and that I did not miss here. He agreed in an awkward kind of way. In any case. I would never go back here unless I had no alternative. And that’s how I found a new doctor.

I’m sure Dr Binstock is a great dermatologist for serious skin problems, but as far as cosmetic surgery goes, its better to have someone work on your face that does only that for a living. The staff at the front desk will not answer your questions about the costs of the procedures, and the fact that you are in the same office with people that are being treated for cancer and other serious situations is awkward.
I got restalyne there once and Dr. Binstock did not give me anything to numb my face first, so it hurt like crazy. I also should have been told not to have coffee, asprin or any other kind of blood thinners before those injections, so my face bruised like crazy. It almost feels like they dont care about what happens to you, since you are in there for some silly cosmetic procedure.

Went in to see Stephanie to get my prescriptions renewed. Seems my prescription for Tretinoin went from $15 per tube to $100 per tube. When questioned, she left a message that said I had said that it was for cosmetic purposes, which I never said. (I have psoriasis on my face.)

My General Practictioner referred me to Dr Shala Rahbar. Do not bother to contact the receptionist for an appointment to see her however..you’ll be totaly blown off.
The person who is apparently responible for scheduling apointments, and I’ve never spoken to a ruder person, is ‘too busy’ to see if they acecpt my insurence which is medicare/ medical?! Awful bitch, completely off the wall. Ugly! Yuck!

I don’t know why Dr. Binstock is a doctor really! He is so concerned about money that he should have looked into jobs on Wall Street instead. If you go in for one thing but ask questions about other things he charges extra (I don’t mean long questions, but let’s say you are paying three hundred and fifty dollars for botox but also ask him to look at your spider veins to give you an estimate. That means another 75 for the question).

having had skin cancer in the past. He noticed a suspicious growth on my face (though I couldn’t see it). He performed a biopsy and determined that it was basal cell carcinoma. We scheduled, and he performed, a procedure to remove this.
A week later, I was notified by his office that a biopsy determined that not all of the cancer was removed. They determined that Mohs surgery (a much more invasive procedure, one that often requires a skin graft) would be necessary.
They wanted me to have this procedure done right away, even though I hadn’t healed yet from the last one. They were quite aggressive about scheduling me, even though the cancer was non-malignant.
Rather than have my face sliced up any further, I decided to seek a second opinion. Dr. Elias J. Michael at Union Street Dermatology (I chose them based on the Yelp reviews) suggested a prescription topical cream, Imiquimod, which might resolve any remaining cancerous cells.
He also thought it best for my last surgery to heal prior to performing another biopsy, since basal cell carcinoma is not life threatening. This has led me to seriously question Dr. Binstock’s competency and/or ethics.
His office’s aggressive push for a major surgery that is neither urgent nor potentially necessary I find highly suspect, especially since this second surgery would be performed in an area that not yet healed from the previous procedure.
I don't think he is practicing within ethical standards.
I saw Dr Binstock many years ago for laser treatments to remove the spider veins on my legs. He did a fantastic job. The veins looked horrible for about three weeks and then the scabs brushed away to reveal clear skin. Unfortunately, he was unable to reproduce the results when I returned several years later.
The techniician for the laser told me his settings were too low. Dr Binstock told me it would now take many visits and cost three or four times the previous amount. I would rather the treatment cost more and still be affective in a single treatment . I don’t think he is practicing within ethical standards.
I feel he doesn't respect my opinion and right of knowing. I will never go back.
He spent fairly little time on me, but this was fine since most doctor tried to see as many people as possible. The most bad thing about him is he give me a prescription of two medicines,
both has potential chemical to cause cancer and have been banned in Europe back in. He didn’t even mention it to me. I didn’t know it until I bought the medicine for 40 bucks and read it from the instruction in the box.

BEWARE!!!!! I had a derm for years and never one time had to pay out of pocket. I received the same type of procedures at both the SF location and the Mill Valley location and to my surprise received out of pocket charges beyond my insurance for over $400 on two different occasions.
Also, I now have several big scars. My previous derm billed in such a way I was never out of pocket and never had scars. I DO NOT recommend either the office in SF or MV.

I noticed that my previous review has been listed as “not recommended”. I believe this may have been due to the fact that I compared my negative experience with his service to the more positive experience of another dermatologist in SF (who, sadly, has passed away since then).
However, this doctor’s ethics are so contemptible, that I’ve decided to resubmit my previous review, but to remove any reference to the other doctor whom I saw for a follow up visit. Yeah, I know, there are a lot of bad reviews of this guy.
However, I believe my experience makes a case for malpractice, though I have no interest in wasting his or my time in court (though the community would be provided a great service if his license to practice medicine were revoked).
Unfortunately, going into the details of why I believe that his license should be revoked would require me to divulge the nature of my experience with the other dermatologist.
Highly do NOT recommend from a customer service standpoint
The upside – very very convenient location. The downside – where to begin… Reception staff not friendly or organized. Wait was more than 30 minutes AND no apology. Dr. Binstock did a cursory checkup at best. Rushed everything. Had no bedside manner, as it were – was gruff and seemingly uninterested.
They are all about pushing anti-aging stuff and not about skin care and correct dermatology practices. Moreover – they are the opposite of conservative when it comes to suggesting ANYTHING that will bring in money for the doctor.
For example, though my full body exam was less than 5 minutes – he still managed to randomly suggest that I get a few biopsies of items – that he didn’t even notice originally – that I had to point out / say “did you see these?”
In the end – I was so uncomfortable and untrusting of the doctor – I went to get a second opinion – and sure enough – those items Dr. Binstock wanted bioposied – the other derm said were not an issue – didn’t require biopsies – to just keep a watchful eye if they changed in shape, color, size, etc.
Very disappointed to say the least – and a waste of time for me as I had to have a “redo” with another derm. Highly do NOT recommend from a customer service standpoint, to the doctor’s care (or lack thereof), and related to rush job and costly items pushing.
No one seemed to care.
New patient. Told to arrive 15 minutes early to fill out forms due to the fact that their “system was down” earlier in the week (so I could not fill out forms prior to my visit).
I arrive at 2:50 PM for a 3 PM visit. At 3:47 PM, I still had not been seen by the doctor. I did, however, waste 25 minutes of my life, naked under a robe. I walked out. No one seemed to care.
