This was the worst experience I’ve ever had in a doctor’s office.
This man is unprofessional and lacks compassion.
Dr. Gross was referred to me by my endocrinologist.
My endocrinologist referred me to Dr. Gross. Dr. Carlson is the usual endocrinologist that I see on maternity leave.
My primary care physician diagnosed me with type 2 diabetes two years ago.
Although we have managed to control diabetes well, my weight is still a concern.
Three months ago, Dr. Carlson started me on a treatment that she believed would help.
It hasn’t. I had to make an appointment with Dr. Gross for a follow-up.
Dr. Carlson recommended gross because of his expertise in weight-related metabolic issues.
Gross at 8:00 AM. Dr. Gross was my contact. The man only asked me why I was there.
I explained to him that I was worried about my weight.
In a very condescending tone, Dr. Gross cut me off to tell me that there was only one method to lose weight.
That was to eat less.
I explained that I consume approximately 1600 calories per day.
I also go to the gym 5-7 times a week and work with a trainer three days each week.
Dr. Gross raised his hand and didn’t allow me to say a word so that he could tell me that it didn’t matter how much or how little I ate.
The only way to lose weight is to eat less.
He then continued to tell me how my brain wants my body to stay at its current weight.
The only way to change this was to eat less.
It was apparent that Dr. Gross had dismissed my concerns without asking a single probative question or checking my thyroid.
I knew that I wouldn’t receive any help from this “doctor.” I replied, “I’m wasting time.”
Dr. Gross’ response? Gross’ response?
At 8:05 AM, I was back in my car. I walked out.
It took me less than five minutes to complete the humiliating task.
There is no miracle cure for compassion, unfortunately.
