Dean R Hirabayashi, MD

Wrong Instructions

My daughter was complaining pressure in one of her eye and went to see Dr. Hirabayashi. He determined that there is nothing wrong with her eye and dismissed her.
Her pain got worse and we decided to bring her to get a second opinion from a highly regarded eye surgeon. Turns out she had a huge tumor behind her eye and had to have surgery ASAP to have the tumor taken out. The Dr. also noted that if she did not have the surgery soon, she might go blind in that eye. Even today, her eye does not dilate properly.
She was at Yale at the time and had to fly back to get the surgery done.
I do not think Hirabayashi is competent and should be avoided.

  1. All his office staff are also very nice people - regardless of their having any accent or not.

Dr. Hirabayashi is one of the best doctor that anyone is lucky to have. He is very caring, kind, and professional with excellent medical knowledge, skills, and practice. My parents and their friends have been seeing him for over two decades, and they love him and won’t change to any other eye doctors.

Since Dr. Hirabayashi is a very popular doctor, naturally the waiting time could be longer at times than one would expect. It is the same with most medical specialists (especially the popular ones). All his office staff are also very nice people – regardless of their having any accent or not.

  2. His office staff are nice as well.

I’ve found Dr. Hirabayashi to be a personable, kind, and caring physician. I’ve been seeing him for a number of years now. He has me taking drops. He is careful in his explanations of what your condition is and why the treatment should be taken and what the results will be.

  3. Generally I've never had to wait long in his office either.

I’ve seen Dr. Hirabayashi for several years now and have always found him to be a great doctor. He’s very knowledgable, has a good chairside manner, and seems to keep with the latest and greatest stuff in opthamology.
