Columbia Credit Union

Fraud Prevention

NOT the place to go if you want a debit card. The “fraud prevention” on their debit cards is just ridiculous.

Buy something online? You’ll be turned down, even after receiving an automated phone call from “fraud protection” and acknowledging that the charge is legitimate.

Going on vacation? Your debit card will be turned down. You’re not using the card in your hometown, so it must be fraud, right?

I once bought a computer online, and the card was turned down.

I had to have the computer company call CCU in a 3-way call in order to get it cleared up.

This caused the computer company to submit the charge three times, causing an overdraft, even with CCU’s incompetent CS agent on the phone the whole time.

CCU refused to refund the charges. When I complained about the overzealous “fraud protection” that caused the whole mess, I was told that it was for my protection.

Nope. Federal law states that the customer/victim can only be charged $50 no matter the size of the fraud. It’s for CCU’s protection, not yours.

Avoid this credit union and its horrible customer service, and under NO circumstances should you accept a debit card from them.

  1. i have been a customer for a very long time.

i have been a customer for a very long time. It no longer feels like a credit union, more like a commercial bank. They keep offering great promotions to attract new customers, but exclude long time, loyal members from participating. I am leaving.

  2. that is why I'm managing her finances.

Columbia Credit Union (CCU) discrimination prevents me from opening an account for my 96 year old mother under her power of attorney, because she doesn’t have a current photo id (driver’s license or passport), that they require citing the Patriot’s Act (Act).

My mother was born in Oregon and has never had any connection to terrorists or money laundering nor is she capable of any such acts as she has short term memory problems; that is why I’m managing her finances.

The provisions of the Act, captioned “International Money Laundering Abatement and Anti-terrorist Financing Act of 2001” are intended to facilitate the prevention, detection and prosecution of international money laundering and financing of terrorism to the extent reasonable and practicable. The minimum information required to open an account is: name, address, date of birth, and an identification number such as social security number or taxpayer id number for U.S. persons.

The Treasury recognizes some customers legitimately may be unable to present those customary forms of id; ex: “an elderly person may not have a valid driver’s license or passport. Under these circumstances, Treasury expects that banks will provide products and services to those customers and verify their identities through other methods.”

  3. Very poor customer service in almost every respect.

Very poor customer service in almost every respect. At all locations i have been to in the vancouver area. Low returns on investments and very low loan approval. Just one more bank that scams to get your money. Not any better than any other

  4. I am currently struggling with finances due to cut hours at work.

I have been with Columbia credit Union for many many years and have been very happy with them until now. I am currently struggling with finances due to cut hours at work.

I had 3 small automatic payments scheduled today and also had my direct deposit scheduled for today. The automatic payments were processed before the deposit leaving me with 3 overdraft fees. I called them to all of there was anything they could do and they told me maybe I should not do automatic payments anymore….

Seriously?!? Very disappointed especially considering how many people I have recommended them to. Bottom line wins again and customers lose.

  7. Using this bank as a lender for an auto loan was a terrible decision.

Using this bank as a lender for an auto loan was a terrible decision. I never missed a payment, or had any late fees; this bank is just extremely unprofessional. I started my loan and received a stack of invoices (approximately 1 year worth).

After I ran out of invoices, I repeatedly asked for more each month. Eventually they decided to send my another stack, but they had another persons information and account number on these bills.
