They Use Dishonest Trickery

Citizens Bank should be avoided. Their fees are numerous and high, and they use dishonest trickery to get their customers to pay more fees.

My experience is instructive: I had been a good customer for six years, but because of a confluence of events, PayPal pulled money out of my account right before three checks came in to clear.

That was right before a holiday, and Citizens was closing early even though the day before the holiday was not a holiday in itself (they shouldn’t have done that).

As a consequence, I couldn’t get money into the bank to cover the checks.

The checks then came in to clear in the order of smallest to largest, and I should have been charged one $39 overdraft fee; but Citizens re-ordered the withdrawals from largest to smallest so that I was charged three fees.

This is what I mean by “trickery”. Only the greediest banks use tricks like that to raise money from their customers.

If you are looking for a bank, you would be better off at a savings bank or credit union.

    Citizens Investment Services Group is Terrible!!! If you want to be in the Stock Market using Mutual Funds, they always recommend their Wrap Fee Program, which charges

    High annual fees to supposedly monitor your Portfolio of Mutual Funds. What a Rip-Off!!! They also don’t have the highly regarded American Funds Family on their Mutual Fund platform, because the American Funds wouldn’t pay them a fee to be on their list. Avoid CFG at all costs!!!

    I just had the opportunity to do business with the Citizen’s Bank where I was met by an associate by the name of Nako Fitchorov. He was efficient, knowledgible, and took care of things in a timely manner. I highly recommend this bank for all your banking needs.

    This is regarding ALL Citizens Bank locations. Customer Service is HORRIBLE! I would never, ever bank here! They follow illegal business practices when handling overdraft fees!

    EVERY single time I attempt to contact Customer Service and ask to speak with a manager, I end up in a black hole. I have to call multiple times to get information or assistance.

    Today, I spoke with Maude from the Rhode Island branch. She was rude and dismissive.

    Banking is competitive. There are so many better banks and credit unions in which to business. Do yourself a favor. Go elsewhere!

    This is my first, and I will ensure it is my last, loan with Citizens One Auto Finance (I was not given a choice at the car dealership). Several months ago I called to request a payoff on my car as I wanted to refinance it with my credit union – the recorded message tells you it’ll be 10 days to receive – here it is months later and I never received the payoff.

    Because I was impatient and wanted to refinance, I was in the loan officer’s office and we called to request a payoff (one would think if the consumer who has the loan requests a verbal payoff, they would give you one, but no, they don’t).

    Worst bank ever. Unhelpful customer service. They pick and choose how and when charges and deposits are posted, they will bill you for an overdraft when the account has not gone negative. Seems like a monkey is operating the system.

  8. It's a nightmare!

    Zero stars. Issue with 3 payments on home equity loan. No one can look up payments, I keep getting switched between departments, very long hold times, they keep saying they will research it,

    when I call again, there is no record in the computer of the issue, and I’m told again they will research it. I’m told “my dept has limited info, but another dept can help”, then I get he same thing from other dept. It’s a nightmare!

    Wow, whatever you do, do not deal with this bank. They have no idea what customer service is. They are rude, arrogant, and really don’t care if they have your business or not. They dishonest when it comes to credit offers. I cannot run away from the bank fast enough.
