Brandon Ehrlich – HomeStreet ...

Loan Service

My experience with Homestreet Bank / Team Ehrlich; Brandon Ehrlich, K. Deschenes, S. Kennedy, & N. Grasst, started like any other, with a need for mortgage financing approval.

This began in September 2018, as Homestreet were the preferred lender at a downtown condo in Seattle.

As part of the process we submitted an application as well as our supporting documents multiple year tax returns, W2’s, bank statements, pay stubs, the lot.

We were pre-approved by Homestreet, and began shopping for a condo in north Seattle vs. downtown as we could get a larger place at a better price point.

The process went along through March 2019 as we continually submitted updated account statements, paystubs, etc.

Ultimately we found a place we liked and with a current pre-approval letter entered a mutually agreed sale agreement with a seller entering the inspection, appraisal process as well as but 3% earnest money down to secure the purchase.

At this point in the process communications from Homestreet’s team became partial, and lacking in substance as well as direction.

Expectations were not clear, and we found ourselves managing the process despite there being a ‘team’ of 4 people at the bank whom one would think their job is to manage the process.

Their online system for the disclosures did not work, and despite loosing over 3 hours towards this with no effect, we ended up manually completing the disclosures.

In April 2019, over 20 days into the process I was emailed to have a chat over the phone in the morning with Brandon, we set a time, and no call ever arrived, at days end I emailed and suggested we reschedule, as I had not heard from them.

24 hours after my email I heard back that there was a problem in underwriting and they would call the next morning.

NO other detail or explanation. The next day in the afternoon Brandon called to say we will not clear underwriting as the mortgage would not meet their debt:income ratio.

No details and no options, or suitable mortgage was proposed, just a ‘sorry’.

How are 4 people whose job it is to handle mortgage financing needs not able to see from the paperwork and supports submitted to them months in advance that the loan would not work, putting us in a situation where we expended a substantial amount of time, effort, stress, money, and exposed our earnest money to being lost from their inept inability to competently do a job when from the beginning of the process they should have seen this as there were no hidden issues, we disclosed everything.

From speaking to another mortgage expert we found that this was not the first time Team Ehrlich had issued a pre-approval that did not clear underwriting.

Warning to anyone in need of a mortgage. Go to another lender. Do not stop at Homestreet, as we cannot for the life of us recommend them to anyone.
